DEM

Unread postby aksingha » Sat Feb 20, 2016 4:13 pm

Hi,
I have laid 125 km of track and only 15 more km to go..and I keep importing DEM in the process.so today I tried to import the remainung DEM datas but unexpectedly the game crashed..tried it a few more times without success.Tried searching the internet but couldn't find much. So I am now thinking of extending my current route a few more kms so that the terminating station can be another major station, since the last/end station previously was just a small station in a small town.
My main concern is that I want to redownload DEM files which would include the data for the extended portion, which previously didn't. So I will have to re-import the files in the game, which is not a problem since the proper scenery work has not begun.
The problem is that i have moved the scenario marker of the originating station/point on the route. So, Will that be a problem while impirting the new DEM files. Since it is important to be in the exact location of the starting long and lat for the DEM files to import for the first time..I guess the marker has no play in this, but I am not sure. So how do I set the starting point to be able to import the new DEM files. Some suggestions please..thank you

To get around the crash, you'll need to download and generate a lower resolution (90m) of the area at that latitude, which I believe is in the SRTM-1 series.
Cheers!

Are/were you generating your terrain with ReDem?

If so, as long as you put in the exact same lat/long coordinates every time you generate more terrain then you will be fine. The location of the starting scenario marker does not matter.

No, i am not using ReDem. I downloaded DEM data from http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ and used BILxSRTM to covert to .hgt files
