Marker Area?

Unread postby railduffer » Fri Oct 23, 2015 11:54 am

I have probably missed this on previous versions. What is "Marker - Area" and what does it do?
I have not found an explanation in any tutorials.

The area markers allow the route builder to draw a rectangle around an area (works like a decal) that you can then name. It'll show up on the 2D map in play mode. That's also the only functionality that I know of it: naming areas on the 2D map. The Cajon Pass route is the only place where I've seen them used.

I'd sure love it if they were added to all routes.

Come to think of it, here's a suggestion I'd like to make to DTG:
- allow the route blueprint to specify an image file that could be used as a background to the 2D map. The route builder could add this image, painting scenic features such as rivers, roads, mountains, bridges, etc., and adding labels. Much like an ordinary 2D map.
- allow the player to display/hide this image in the 2D map screen using a checkbox or a hotkey.

What do you think?

I think that's a terrific idea! :D

Now if we can only get our route loading screens back. *!rolleyes!*

Couldn't agree more Marc. I'd love a loading screen for my short portion of the Australian Central Australia Railway route, instead of unappealing advertising and other misc stuff etc. It was a feature in MSTS. The publisher of my MSTS Midnorth Route even added an acknowledgement of my work to the loading screen, since I didn't bother.

When do you see these in TS2016? About a month ago, there wasn't even a loading screen, and then it changed back or something. Frankly, I think there should be a custom image option for the loading screen, and DTG should be notified about this ASAP.

What do you think?

I think this would have its place as well. However, the current 2d map is a bit buggy. I've seen it crash even when running payware routes, so that is an indication that something's not quite right. Maybe there should be a feature that allows the player to select either a basic map or a detailed one.

I have never had the two D map crash in all my years of RailWorks.

Well that's strange. What could cause it to crash then? There doesn't seem to be any obvious issues with my custom track or anything from what I can tell. It renders fine, even with 3 ways. Also, I only have static objects and (scale)road lofts in my route.

I know TS is extremely picky about everything being perfect, but I can't find the culprit. Could it be due to the terrain blueprint? The current one seems to be fine, as one can jump anywhere regardless of height difference and the game doesn't crash when rendering the terrain like it used to. It is a bit less prone to crashing than what it used to be now, but it still does it. It's annoying.

Actually this feature was available a long time ago in early versions of Railworks.
DTG replaced it with dynamic advertisement, because:
- hackers could use this feature to inject malware into your computer; and
- hey, free advertisement!

The absence of a loading screen a month ago was due to a bug.

Thanks guys. I'm a little confused with all the information, but I'll study on it.
