How do you get Markers to actually appear in the sim?

Unread postby SAR704 » Fri Dec 19, 2014 5:17 am

I've followed the tutorial at http://www.rstools.info/tutorials/Marker_Tutorial.pdf and I still can't get the markers recognised by TS. In the blueprint editor, you can't actually specify kuju as the provider for the flag.xml file because then you'll get an error saying something like referenced file under provider will not be exported. For me, the markers won't even appear in right window in TS, let alone with flags.

Is there a step by step tutorial somewhere that allows you to complete this pain in the butt process? It seems to be very hard for me.

Found a way to get the markers in the list on the right now, but still can't get the flags to appear. I've edited the export files to refer to the kuju flag, and yet it's still not showing up. What is the secret method to get the flags to appear?

This may not help at all because I may misunderstand your problem. Anyway, the marker flags will appear when in the world editor if you turn on markers, in the bottom pullout on the left.

Then you have to jump to the location of the marker. They may be difficult to see when you jump to them, because you are right on top of them. Move up a bit, look straight down, move to the side a bit, and so on.

From recollection (someone correct me if needed) you jump to a marker in the world editor by clicking on the > icon in the pulldown window at the top of the screen, which brings up the markers on the right side pullout, then click on a marker name, then back to the compass pulldown at the top of the screen and click on the compass icon. Once you have done the jump, you may be below the level of the terrain (if it's located at a higher altitude location) so you may have to move way up to see it.

No, the problem is that i exported the marker blueprint, along with the CSV files int my route's folder, and the actual flags won't appear.

I'm not sure what else I need to do to bring them up.

Sorry, blueprints are way beyond me. Never looked at one when I created my route. Hopefully some guru will chime in.

I've a sneaking suspicion that the marker flags are somehow broken in TS2015.

Can't say for certain except that they've been suspiciously absent since late September.

If your markers appear in the fly-out panel to the right of the screen, and you can zoom to them, you're doing it right.

If anyone can actually get the pesky flags to appear again - let me know!

thanks,

I believe the Blueprint Exporter is no longer referencing the files necessary to show the flags so although you can eventually see the list of place names, there is no visual text or flag on the map. When you run the exporter you will actually see this message in the text output. I'm not sure how we can get them back though.

I know the preference these days is to use Google Earth but there are still many situations where subsidiary markers are needed or helpful.

Edit: Thinking on this further, going back to RS/early RW days the marker flags came from the Kuju folder, which was where the blueprint set up in RW Tools pointed it to. Since then the files have been "ap'ed" so no longer visible to the BP Editor. For a while I was able to point the blueprint to a suitable route asset folder (BrightonMainLine or Marias Pass) for the flags and it worked. However it appears in TS2015, whether deliberately or otherwise DTG have blocked that ability.

So (being positive) what we need is a brief tutorial how to create your own marker flag and get that to show up along with the text name in the editor.

It could be that DTG have seen the markers as redundant since the GE overlay became available.

However, I much prefer to use markers, as they are precise and sometimes help me in a way that the GE overlay wouldn't. This is absurd IMHO.

Gone through the procedure to get the Overlay active in the sim, and yet nothing appears. All I see is circles in the distance spinning for a few seconds, and then they disappear and nothing shows. This game seems to be more and more complicated with every update.

Markers still have their place, where the GE imagery (when it works) is low res, you are perhaps following a heavily forested route and can use a mapping overlay (eg OSM) in Google Earth to plot the course and map out tunnels etc.

Sorted (I think).

Export the markers from RW Tools with the default Kuju path.

In the Route editor ensure Kuju/Railsimulator is ticked as a provider (it is no longer ticked by default).

You may need to exit and enterthe editor a couple of times but eventually your markers and flags will appear.

Many thanks to PJT1974 at Trainsim.dev

Thanks for that. Unbelievably, the markers are actually appearing now with their names above them.

There may have been a glitch in the blueprint in regards to a reference, but one thing I forgot to do was to select Kuju in the right tab. Anyhow, it's good that you can still use markers rather than being forced to rely on the GE overlay.

Speaking of markers, I'm having trouble converting directly from KML to CSV. Converting directly to the sim works, but then I have to decompress the BIN file in order to add my own flag objects. *!sad!*
Cheers!

Is there a limit for the amount of markers you can have brought up/recognised in TS? I've set up markers for a rather lengthy route, and imported some old ones from a separate GE file, and for some reason, most are showing up, but not all of them.

RW tools doesn't seem to be converting every single one of them into a combined DSCV file. It seems to be missing some. Is this normal, or is there no limit for the amount of markers that are entered into the file to appear in the game? It's sort of puzzling.

Rather than starting a new thread for a single question, I thought I'd use the shovel.

Anyhow, there seems to be a lot of miscellaneous stuff appearing in the marker tab. I've exported a marker BP, and yet it still shows this Kuju/DTG related stuff, when I don't recall adding any references in blueprints to enable this.

How do I get rid of this so that only my markers show?

I think it comes from whatever route you're using the template from.
