Track Gradients

Hello Group,
Well I've decided to jump in with both feet

Having built a few routes in MSTS I sort of have the basics figured out; created a marker file, used ReDem to create the landform, have my track chart in hand and used RW_Tools to create the route and my development folders. Now I'm starting to lay track using the US Branchline track with the low switch machines and I've run into a problem

well multiple problems

Terminology seems to be the first problem as I've tried searching multiple forums and could not find an answer to my question. I'm trying to lay a grade but the gradient says something like 1 in 200 or some such thing? My question, how do I change the gradient from its current setting to read percent, as in a 2% grade?
Thank you in advance

Hi,
You need to select a different track rule. (Found in bottom left flyout, under track) These determine minimum curve radius, default speed, MPH/KPH, Gradient display (1in x or % or per mill) and default track type.

Is there anyway to edit the existing track rule to have it use percent instead of the value it's currently using? If yes what value do I need to look for in the blueprint and what do I need to change the value to?
thanks in advance,
Rich S.

Rich, I think the better option would be to create your own track-rule with the Blueprint Editor. You have full control over how you want it to be and it won't get overridden by the next update to RailWorks.

Hi Alex,
Thank you for the info. Trying not to re-invent the wheel and having to spend a considerable amount of time learning another editor, would there be a problem if I copied the current track rule to my ..\Development\RailNetwork\TrackRules folder, renamed the file and changed the Gradient line from
<GradientValue d:type="cDeltaString">1 in x</GradientValue>
To
<GradientValue d:type="cDeltaString">Percent</GradientValue>
Run the file back through serz.exe and just leave the file in my ..\Develoment\RailNetwork\TrackRules folder? Would this file still be affected by a Railworks update? I already have my Dev folder checked in the right flyout in the World Editor.

I'm not to sure about what the actual code is, but that might work. I know Steam won't overwrite something if it doesn't "know" about it. So copies of default content won't change, unless it has the same name in the same folder.

Hi Alex,
Thank you for your help and suggestions

I did copy the track blueprint to my dev folder, I then renamed it and made the above changes. All seems to be well and the track laying has begun

Regards,
Rich S.
