Powder River Basin

Discussion about RailWorks route design.

Some brief notes about the free roam scenarios might be appropriate....

There will be 18 of them (eventually) covering the 9 BNSF/UP Subdivisions in the route - one eastbound and one westbound.
The purpose of the free roam scenarios is to “acclimate” the railfan to the route while other scenario authors create more engaging standard/career scenarios.
The scenarios are broken down to represent the “as best as I can tell - based on internet documents” Crew Change Points used by both railroads.
The scenarios average anywhere from 60-140 minutes of running time - this is done in keeping with the realistic running times of the real railroad and their crew operations. This doesn’t mean you can’t stop running the scenario anytime you want, it just means you won’t have completed it to its logical conclusion. Unless you save before exiting, you’ll be starting back at the beginning the next time you run the scenario.

EDIT: These are now available in Tomcat’s PRB Release or later in this subject thread on 21 Nay 2021.

I'll repeat all of the above when I release the next phase towards the end of the month.

Thanks for adding the clarification on the new rwp files, I almost wanted to ask about the old ones, but good think I gave it another read.
And For the Grass Pack, is it just the singular grass pack, or do we also need to install the grass pack patch?

This link does not seem to work
Eléments de raffinerie from http://ajrailsim.free.fr/ Under the Objets tab you'll find refinery assets under 'Eléments de raffinerie' for download. It's a 3.3 MB file - easy install.

Seems like they changed the site around. I'm looking into it.

I'm glad I still have the original download of that asset.
By the way, not sure if anyone's brought it up, but there's a great program on this area from 7idea Productions "Coal Trains of the Powder River Basin". Great use of 2hrs regarding this route, or at least the Orin Sub segment.

Old links have been removed and I'll be posting new links very soon which include all the new track and scenery I have added since the release on page 33.

His videos are great. I'm frankly tied between the Toledo Branch pair and Willamette Valley mainline (since I live in the area) or maybe the Cascade Sub. Part of me wants to try and build the Cascade Sub, but I don't have the patience for it, or sometimes the relevant guides to route/scenario creation aren't as informative as my brain needs to make 'slot A into slot B' work.

I found it. The address did change, it is now https://ajrailsim.pierreg.org/ click on the Objets tab at the top of the page and it's the 15th entry on the page - Eléments de raffinerie

The issue is kind of moot since after reading the text file that accompanies the file it mentions 'Inclusion in assets package for free routes permitted with credits.' It's my bad that I never noticed that before so I will be including it in the Assets file from now on and giving credit to Pierre Gauriat.

Folks should visit the site anyway since there are quite a selection of fine assets available for download.

RE: the disappearance and reappearance of the ajrailsim site. For those who haven't read the account on RailSim.Fr...

Pierre Gauriat's work was lost when a data centre in Strasbourg (which hosted his work) suffered a fire which destroyed one (out of four) server clusters and severely damaged two others. The data centre's management then (helpfully) messaged their customers: "Please activate your disaster recovery procedures". Right... *!rolleyes!*

Pierre, being a very organised guy, had his backups rolled out and available to us lucky people in days. Respect! Unlike many, PG had read the small print and knew exactly what his data hosts were - and were not - offering in their contract.
