Columbia Valley Pacific

Discussion about RailWorks route design.

I am building the route with steam operations in mind. I have water tanks spaced along the route and turning and servicing facilities where needed. I have been careful to make the scenery generic enough to represent anytime from the 1920's to about the 1960s. Anything era-specific, like vehicles, are placed as scenario scenery so they can be changed out easily.

Here's a couple of pictures around Odessa Bar. Its not too far from the division point. There is a water tank here for the through trains. The turntable and engine shed are somewhat abandoned from the days when there was a switcher stationed here to service the ore tipple, although they both still get occasional use.

You are a tease !*roll-laugh*!

All I keep seeing in my mind is that screenie with the forestry dirt road crossing the line and then climbing the hill on the other side of the track, it is just beautiful. Wayne, you have a great eye for detail **!!bow!!**

Great news on the steam facilities too. Any chance of a route map screenie?

!*drool*!

My route covers the Boundary Sub on the fictional Columbia Valley Pacific. Its set along the border between Washington State and British Columbia. With the discovery of rich ore deposits in the early 1900's, CPR and GNR battled to serve the region. But while their efforts were tied up in the courts and political backrooms a consortium of mining and smelting interests formed up to get the job done. The CVP received its charter in 1908 and quietly began building up the Columbia River. Construction began in the South Subdivision with crews working the line north towards the division point at Columbia. From there the Boundary Sub followed the Coppermine Creek north and west to Okanagan Lake.

The CVP was first into the region. It eventually ran a branch from Columbia to meet the CPR at Penaska. And later after Hill bought a seat on the CVP board, the GNR established a connection at Adams Bay and in fact acquired running rights over the CVP from there to the big smelter at Grand Bend.

So far I have mainline track laid end to end, all terrain is Dem'd and textured, and I have a basic vegetation cover over the entire route. I am doing detailing now in the Odessa Section with it about 70% done and have begun to lay out the division point town at Columbia.

Here's the overall route map. I hope you all enjoy following along.

I shall be following along like a pre-schooler at story telling time, hanging on every work !*roll-laugh*!

There were some old abandoned saw mill assets, by Dogmouse I think, in the RWA library that might be of some use if you havent already seen them.

Thanks for the map, and good luck...

Many items, including the track, are my own assets, or gifts from friends. But there are many external ones as well.
The list is still in flux. I am adding and removing items without too much regard for the source. Once the route is more final I will consolidate and minimize the external dependencies and seek the necessary permissions.

But as it stands right now, these are my dependencies - the final list will be much shorter:

...

WAC NOTE _ the above out of date list is removed. The route, as released, requires:

Kuju US, Kuju Europe, and RWA Lakeside

And Ozinoz, thanks for the suggestion about the Dogmouse sawmill. I will definitely find a place for it on the route.
