Wow, this route is looking fantastic! Though it's been a while since this thread was active. Any updates?

Thanks for the kind words! It's still being worked on. Just haven't got around to posting any updates lately.

Finally getting around to posting a few updates on the TCNG, not too much to show, but the major work has been in the Weaverville area, primarily the sawmill for the Trinity Mountain Lumber Co. I've arranged the mill to about how it sits in real life, with what buildings are available. However, the way the railroad comes into town, the mainline runs right through the middle of the mill property putting the log deck on the opposite of the main from the sawmill, but it makes for an interesting area. Still needs more clutter and trees in the surrounding area, but it's coming along nicely. In the third photo, the freight is crossing the trestle over Weaver Creek.

Here is another industry I've added to Weaverville, which I thought would add some interest to operations, Mt Shasta Pine & Manufacturing Co.'s Sash and Door Factory. In real life Mt. Shasta Pine and Manufacturing had a large mill along the Southern Pacific just south of the the City of Mt. Shasta at a place called "Pioneer".

Another location that as seen some major work, was Scott Mountain Summit. I wasn't happy with the way I had the track laid, so I rearranged the track, moving it to a spot a little lower than it was previously, which also allowed me to make a wye with curves and turnouts that were within the minimum I prefer to keep my curves, which is a 70 meter radius. There was a wye at the summit previously, but the curves on the legs of the wye were pretty sharp and the tail was on a fill, and seemed unnecessary, so I pulled up the track re-contoured the ground to what it was, and put a little more surveying in where the rails would be laid. There are a few places that have a sharper curve, but that's only on a few industry spurs.

This is looking great Tim!

What kind of grades does the line climb up to Scott Mountain Summit?

Hi Tim,

Have you got a logo for your very promissing Trinity County N.G. route? Since I like playing with the Clear Creek Rte., I'm willing to explore and come up with a period logo for future rolling stock. If you are willing. it would be my pleasure to give it a go !!*ok*!! To go even further does Trinity County have an icon - an object, an animal, a plant or ???

Others may sugest an approach or theme, am all ears *!greengrin!*

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

The grade between Callahan and the summit at Scott Mountain is mostly 3.5% with a small section of 4% near Callahan, which is the beginning of the grade. Heading down the other side, it is all 4% down to Trinity River, where the grade levels off to about 2.5% with a short section 3.5% until a place called "Trumble Ranch" which is were Tangle Blue Creek flows into the Trinity from the there the grade is gentle down to Trinity Lake.

QcRail: Yes, I have toyed around with logos and look for the rolling stock of the TCNG. The logo ideas came from both the old Nevada-California-Oregon Railway (the narrow gauge predecessor to Southern Pacific's Modoc Line) and the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad. The ideas for the TCNG originally started out as an idea for an HOn3 layout, and I did get one engine painted. I do hope to one day release the route, but I don't want to make any promises, as it is slow going. However, if you want to play around with painting up some rolling stock, I would love to see what you come up with, that part of Train simming has never been a strong area for me. :)

Beautiful job! I drive 299 periodically from Eureka to Redding and you have captured the scenery perfectly.

Hi mate...

Whatever happens, PLEASE do not let this route die. There are so few steam era routers, and even fewer narrow gauge ones, and even fewer of this detail and quality, that its existence must be preserved **!!bow!!**

If you don't want to finish, I am sure there are builders out there with time on their hands, that would gladly take up the mantle and get it finished, or release it as is and let individual users finish it for themselves.

It is a stunning looking route that deserves to be enjoyed.. !*drool*!

*!!thnx!!*

With the amount of time I've put into creating the route, I don't plan on giving up on it. :D I've done quite a lot of research on the historical industries in Trinity County and this my attempt at weaving a railroad into that history. The mines, mills, and other industries served continues to evolve and change, which will effect how many engines should the railroad have, how many trains need to be ran on an average day. I've also been working on a tentative timetable to help iron the operations. Essentially, I've created a whole little world to go with this route to make this fictional railroad seem as plausible and realistic. Currently I figured about a roster of about 22 locomotives. Loaded freights need about 3 or 4 engines to get over Hayfork summit and Scott Mountain summit. 3 freights each way between Etna and Trinity Center a day, 1 freight each way between Trinity Center and Hayfork (sometimes an extra is ran), and 2 freights each way between Trinity Center and Weaverville. Extra freights during the fall cattle rush. Trains are ran between Etna and Fort Jones to switch the interchange with the standard gauge Yreka Western as needed, which is three or 4 times a day. 2 passenger trains each way between Weaverville and Fort Jones, and one passenger each way between Hayfork and Trinity Center. Coffee Creek branch has a train that makes 3 trips from Abrams to Coffee Creek Jct. and back each day, first trip is a mixed passenger/freight, second train is freight, and the third train is another mixed. 4% grades on the Coffee Creek branch limit tonnage, which is the reason for the multiple trips. I've ran most of these train on route in simple free roam scenarios, but I haven't actually attempted to create any specific scenarios. Trinity Center to Weaverville back on a freight train with switching along the way, took 8 hours, something that would probably need to be split into separate scenarios, because I doubt anybody wants to run an 8 hour long scenario.

Trinity 1.jpg
Suggestion #1.

I have used the wording "Trinity County Railway" rather than including NARROW GAUGE as well.

The font needs to changed to something more period. Suggestions? I can change it easily so as to get an idea of how it looks.

And obviously, it can be just outlined, colours inverted etc.
