Changeing track rules

Unread postby thebigroyboyski » Sat Nov 24, 2012 4:56 am

Now that I've recovered the routes I was building I've realised a problem I have.
My original route that I started before I'd learnt too much has 4 different track rules. I know this will give me problems further down the build. Is it possible to change them to a single custom rule that I've created and used for my other route?
Also part of my route has overhead wires but at the time I couldn't see how to have the wires on my main lines but not on my branch without using different rules.
Any help is much appreciated.

It probably is possibly to combine into one trackrule, but it'll take alot of work. What makes you think having multiple trackrules is a problem? I do and haven't had any problems.

Im using PTM yard track for my yards and Horseshoe Curve for my mainline track. No problems as of yet, note that my route has no signals in it yet.. A little off topic perhaps, but will there be problems when signalling ? I mean, lets say i want to place a signal to exit the yard ( on a PTM yard track rule ) while the mainline track uses the track rule from the HSC, will this be a problem?

Like you guys I've not had any problems yet but I think when it comes to signalling and speed limits the problems arise.
It's just from reading posts on here that I've noticed a few builders say only one should be used to avoid problems so I thought I'd ask.
I'm lucky that the main branch I'm building only has one signal where it joins the main line. It only has one train a day in real life.
I'll worry about the rest when the time comes.

You want your track network using the same rule, because it is very much like a network with communication passing between signals and other track infrastructure. If you have RWTools you can correct this problem fairly easily.

Read over this first. It covers replacing the track types. Changing the rules would be similar:
http://www.rstools.info/tutorials/Replacing_Track.pdf

I have a post still in draft about changing rules. I'll see if I can finish it up sometime today. It will be similar to the PDF, just focusing on how I change the rules for my route.

That all said, you can use different rules in a route. Say if you have a both narrow and standard gauge lines and they never meet, then you are OK. Remember its when the two different networks connect you get into problems.

OK, I (finally) finished my post about this:

Tell me if that make sense to you. If not I will try to clarify.
