Station building from scratch

Unread postby wlenz781 » Mon Mar 01, 2021 10:58 am

Does anyone know how to build a passenger station from scratch? I am working on a side project of the Israel High Speed line from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. It is only 48km or 30 miles of dual tracks and has a top speed of 160km/h. You travel from near Sea level at Tel Aviv, to 740m in the mountains of Jerusalem. The Jerusalem station is 80 meters below ground, and the route has 15km or 9 miles of tunnels. It has the Middle East's longest tunnel at 11km, the longest bridge at 1.2km, and the tallest bridge at 95 m tall. I have the station built with its two platforms and four tracks. I have found benches and lighting for the platform, but am looking for things like stairs to the upper level and possibly an elevator. This route will use predominately German assets and the LGV track.

This is where I am starting on this route as it is short but complex. With 48km to climb 700 meters along electrified lines with bridges and tunnels, this route is not a simple high-speed passenger run. I hope to eventually add other lines in Israel to the route as I can expand it. Maybe add the line from Tel Aviv to Haifa or Ashdod and Ashkelon and you drive a diesel passenger or freight train along the Mediterranean coastline.

Most people will probably say "learn 3d modeling and do it yourself" but now that I've said it no one else has to say it.

Anyways, I think there is an elevator asset on UK train sim, the link is here https://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-info.php?form_fileid=25202 I never got around to actually downloading it myself (hit a slump in my TS interest) so idk if it still works.

For the steps, you could probably just use footbridge parts. I know on some routes they have footbridge parts where you can build your own footbridge, so as far as I know that's the only steps I know of.

Thank you, those elevators might work. I also found some escalators and stairs from ChrisTrains. https://www.christrains.com/en/frison_objects.html. Hopefully, I can piece together enough assets to make this station.

I do hope to learn Blendr and making my own content. I am currently taking a C++ class to learn how to code and script. When that is done, we will learn to code in Unity. After I finish these classes, I intend to take some Blendr tutorials online and learn 3D modeling.

Nice! I tried the windmill blender tutorial that was uploaded here a while ago but I royally failed something so after i move next month I'll be able to schedule myself some time to sit down and go line by line in the tutorial to see where I may have went wrong. I also may just have the wrong version of blender, too. I have the version downloaded from steam which updates all the time, and the tutorial may be based on an older version of the program. I'll figure it out eventually though. I'm going to start small with a cardboard box probably !*roll-laugh*! just texture the starting cube and load it into the sim. I want to work up to a tiny trolley as my first piece of rolling stock/loco. (the kind with only four wheels and no bogies so the only moving parts are just the wheels)

Blender isn't overly hard, although the initial learning curve is quite steep. I'd highly recommend the first 7 parts of the Blender Guru's donut series, then going on to his chair series. That takes you through the basic operations of modelling, material setup, and unwrapping.

In all honesty you don't really need to know all the stuff in here, especially if you're just making buildings, but they all help build experience and familiarity with Blender which I suppose is the most important part. The easiest way to really get a basic grasp of how to get an object into TS is probably to make decals; it's as simple as making a 2D plane with the correct dimensions, then exporting it. That'll take you through the basics of the TS Blueprint Editor as well, which is crucial to getting an object into the game.

The decals have the added benefit of being child objects to help with repaints where the model does not allow for proper logo placement.
