Can you edit a laid tracks rule??

Unread postby sandpaper90 » Fri Aug 10, 2018 12:27 pm

So I've laid track in my route, and I've decided I want to change say, the speed limit or some other factor of the track rule, how do you do this when the track is laid? Surely there must be another way besides deleting it, and re-laying the track piece with a new rule? What am I missing??

Well, if you change for example the speed limit in the track rule, all new layed tracks will be layed with ne new speed limit. The existing ones won't be changed if you have modyfied the speed by hand. If not, I'm not sure.
All information about the already layed track is saved in a file called Tracks.bin. You'll find it here --> *YOURROUTEID*\Networks\Tracks.bin
If you drop the Tracks.bin on serz.exe (located in the railworks root path) it will be converted to a editable xml file.

For example you'll find the two speed values inside the 'Network-cTrackNetworkSpeedLimit' blocks.

After you've done your changes drop the Tracks.xml on serz.exe and you'll get your bin file. Be sure you have a backup of your files before you do any changes!

If you tell us what exactly you want to change we can help you better *!!wink!!*

Generally, changing an extry does not have an effect on already laid tracks.
There are some exceptions:

- The track (the model + texture) are not changed by a new <DefaultTrackType>.

- The geometry of already laid track will not change, except the superelevation (the inclination and the transition from 0° to maximum inclination) when changing one of these values:
MaxCantAngleDegrees, CurveToAnglePercent and MaxSpeedTolerance. The latter determines the length of the easement curve and must fit to CurveToAnglePercent.
Changing one of these values too much may have tremendous effects on the driving experience, so be careful.

- GradientValue only changes the values what you can see in the editor or in the F3/F4 HUD. You in America like to use "PerCent", but with "PerMill" you see it 10 times more accurate. This is very useful when building a route (you can change it back to PerCent before publication anyway).

- I would be carefule with different junction motors. The actual track rule determines new set motors. Since some time has passed since I did this last time, I would double check the motors in the TS when you have changed them.

- Althogh some people still believe that the TS only accepts one trackrule within one route: This is not the case ! You can have more trackrules like you can handle, e.g. for different speeds (with different easements), for different minimum radii. Just give the rules good names, otherwise you will get a mess in your tracks.

- And restart the TS completely (or clear caches) after changing trackrules.

Thanks all!! I'll give this a try. Mainly it's speed limits I want to change, so editing the .bin file with SERZ sounds like the way to go for me. Thanks!

Sandpaper, to edit speed limits of track that is already laid, use the 'select' tool in the editor.

Choose the select tool, then click on the track at the start of the part you want to change. Then move your cursor down the track which will highlight the section you want to change. Then click on the track at the end of the point you want to change. A dialog box will appear at the top right of the screen. Within that box you can change passenger and freight speed limits, superelevation, etc.
