Corrugated fences

Unread postby SAR704 » Tue May 08, 2018 11:33 pm

I built a fence loft not that long ago, and it's corrugated, but horizontally instead of vertically.

Anyhow, I have noticed that there seems to be a flickering issue depending on the angle of the sun. I have checked for any overlaps, and there are none.

But anyhow, the issue is visible in this screenshot. Notice the contrast with the 90 degree difference. To the left, it's facing towards the sun.

I am surprised that this occurs, but is there a solution to this without having to resort to having a flat rectangular loft in it's place? I have built it in a zigzag style.

It seems to me that with out texturing the fence surface it is giving off a great deal of white reflection. Also do you have the "Quality Shadow" box ticked as "on" in your Settings menu? That makes a huge difference in the reflective properties of a surface.

But I am a getting ahead of myself. Get some textures on those models first. You can't tell how well you've spit shined your boots until you apply the boot polish first.

Which models are you referring to? The priority at the moment is to finish Wunkar, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding a photo of the station building or shed/whatever it was.

Your post is titled "Corrugated Fences" as well a a photo referencing those models. That is what I thought this discussion was about. Corrugated Fences and looking crappy in the simulated sunlight... !*don-know!* *!question!* *!question!* !**conf**!

The fence is textured with a white .ace file. I've never heard of an untextured scenery object finding it's way into the sim.

Ah, I see said the blind man to his deaf son as he picked up the hammer and saw.

Yet there is a post where someone is making a Track Mobile model and he has pictures of it in the game without textures on it. Unless he has a "base" grey added to it so it can be posted.

So Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa.

Then I would look into shading it some by dropping a new darker layer on it and adjusting the opacity. I did that with a re-textured default block that was light concrete with oil spots. It brought the whiteish glare down to where I wanted it to be. Also I thought I read a post that discussed using the Alpha layer to do the same thing.
Plus there is a feature in RW Tools that may help. There is a tool in Edit Assets menu, Asset Editor menu, then Edit Assets tag called "Zero EmissiveAsVec" that automatically adjust those values to zero so as to eliminate the "glow in the dark" effect of textures. It has eliminated roughly the same problem with the third party loading docks that have the forklifts on them. This way the values are set correctly before copying all that programing mumbo-jumbo into a rwp.

That is all that I have on this matter as I am still learning this stuff just as you are. !*salute*!
