Taking a section from one route to another

Could I take a section from one route and import it into another route? And if so how would one do that?

No I do not beleive that will work because of the lat and lon. Both pieces would need to have the same starting point. But you can always make copies of the routes and try. People have merged entire routes, not sure about just a part of one though.

So, it seems that one can merge whole entire routes together? That is quite interesting.

It can be done. There are merged versions of some German and northeast routes in the Steam workshop. The origin has to be identical I think.

From what I know of the whole process, the scenery and other elements of the route are based on the world coordinates and everything else is offset from those coordinates, so yes, if one route were to be blended into another, they would at least have to have the same base world coordinates. Not to mention a whole other can of worms dealing with the assets.
