Fog settings, distant scenery

I'm noticing that at a lot of points along my route that the distant terrain takes on a whitish hue right before it gets shaded out into the blue silhouette colour.

This makes distant scenery like 2d trees stick out like a sore thumb, and not really blend in. (see below) Also, the actual terrain texture seems to not matter at these distances, as it fades into that white colour. My default textures for the route are 'scrub mixed' and 'rock light' from the base railworks game.

Is this a function of the fog settings? Default route textures? Is there a way I can tweak this so that distant scenery assets don't stand out as badly?

The only thing with which you can play is <DistantTerrainColour> and <WinterDistantTerrainColour> at the end of your terrain.xml in Environment\ of your Assets\Provider\Project-folder. There you can get rid of the white mountains. You have to rebuild the distant terrain to see the real effect, but to test I would have a look at the route without distant terrain.
Fog is only set by a weather. The only thing a routebuilder can do to set a (default) weather in the Assets\Provider\Project\Templateroute\yourtemplateroute.xml and your route-folder Content\Routes\longnumbernevertoremeber\routeproperties.xml
Which of both really set the default weather - I don't remember. Just set the same weather in both.
Anyway, every scenario should use different weathers. So your influence is limited.

Are you sure that fog is causing the effects that bother you? Keep in mind that distant objects and scenery appear more hazy than those nearby -- it's a natural phenomenon.

One thing the default time of day files don't consider often (and this is only for non-3d weather of course), is the type of climate the area is. In the desert there should be a much less blue hue to the distant scenery and more of a grey or red tint.

On the other hand in the mountains and less arid areas it should be more blue, kind of like the default

I have been working on some general time of day files to help simulate this but nothing ready as of yet.
