RWDecal Problems and can you use a Decal for a layout diagram?

Unread postby gatorail » Tue Oct 04, 2016 10:35 pm

First off I am having problem with RWDecal initializing Google Earth for calibration. It never transitions into calibration. Have tried both Google Earth and the Pro edition installed. Have turned off anti-virus also. My browser is Firefox but that is irrelevant as far as I can tell.

My intent is to use a layout diagram from a model railroad magazine as a overlay to help with route construction. This is the one way I see as a possibility to import the layout diagram. The other way is to make a Decal that has the layout on it but the information on making a Decal seems to be difficult to find. Hoping someone can provide links to instructions as to how to do either

Thanks for any help

Hi

You need to make sure you're using an old version of Google Earth for starters as something fundamentally changed in later versions which broke RWDecal. The version I use is 6.1.0.5001.

As far as the overlay is concerned you add this into GE via Add\Image Overlay. From the box that subsequently opens you'll have the option to browse to the location on your PC of the file you want to use. Once your overlay image is showing in GE you can manipulate and scale it so that it lines up. With that done you use RWDecal to create decals for the relevant area ensuring that you don't have either of the Disable Google Earth Overlays options ticked in the RWDecal Preferences option.

Hopefully that'll help you get started.

Cheers

Bob

I may sit beside you all the journey through,
Or I may sit elsewhere, never knowing you.
But if fate should mark me to sit by your side,
Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."
