TSW build 659 "California Dreamin' "

A new build will be rolled out to all existing owners of the base game tonight, August 15.

To coincide with the release of Train Sim World 2020, we shall be releasing an update to Train Sim World for all existing players.
Please see the full changelist below:

Core

Character Outfit Viewer – When you create a new in-game profile, you can view your character in the multiple outfits which are supplied with each route.

Renamed some game modes:
Tutorials have been renamed to Training
Service Mode has been renamed to Timetable
Collectables have been renamed to Jobs

More “at-a-glance” information has been added to the ‘Route Selection’ section and are then taken to the main menu, on the right-hand side you will see an info panel which informs you of progress of completing X number of:
Timetabled Services (previously known as Services)
Scenarios
Training Modules (previously known as Tutorials)
Accumulated distance travelled on that route
Jobs (previously known as Collectables)

Nothing special or of real enhancement to the play value.
As if collecting silly stuff while trespassing on a live railroad is a "Job"?

No word on any physics update or general updates to the game engine. Perhaps those will come when the individual DLC get updated or with the release of the CalTrain route?

A full change log was posted there yesterday, think and among other things it includes adding moving cars to Great Western Express, Northern Trans-Pennine, and LIRR. There is also mention of improved cloud textures as well. This was a fairly noticeable change the other night when DTG did a stream showing off the new features. GP40-2 physics have been revised, making I think the YN2 GP38-2 the only loco to have the old physics - hopefully this gets patched in soon. The new Peninsula Corridor, for anyone interested, is priced at $29.99 with a 10% discount for the first week. The livestream for that is tonight. I was wondering, a 2.7 GB for only this minor stuff ...

Now what is this, from the CSX:HH section:
'Swapped the positions of Brake Pressure and Throttle objectives so that the player must wait for the brakes to charge before applying throttle in the ‘Clear Cut’ scenario'

So I cannot load the throttle against the brakes releasing to stretch the train? AFAIK slack and coupler physics aren't even modelled in TSW?

Normal running with slow speed control on would sometimes dictate having SSC enabled at whatever speed you need, against a minimum reduction to prevent or reduce oscillation of speed.

Well my update is queued/pre-allocating otherwise not much happening.

This sounds as if it is a 2.2Gb emperor's new clothes, TBH.

Will be interesting to see what price the older routes I didn't bother with are pitched at.

Ah, just started downloading now. Will take a look and come back with some objective (for me!) thoughts later.

Has anyone gotten the new route yet? A few reviews talk about how good the sounds are, and one negative review simply states, “
Aaaaand it seems very rushed... As usual.. GG Dovetail.

Wait to buy until they refine the bugs and poor sounds.”
The screenshots look alright, but I won’t be able to watch the stream until around 9:00 tonight. The 10% discount would make the purchase ever so slightly more palatable.

I've only played with the Trans Pennine route and, maybe it's just me, but the graphics do seem slightly improved, less washed out and more lifelike. Sounds also slightly better (perhaps) with the Class 45 sounding louder in cab and a nice brake rub effect too.

I dabbled with the new "Journey" feature - seems a little patronising, possibly useful for newcomers to the sim or when you buy a new route but so far it has not been a sequential chain of 24 hour events but a set of unconnected short scenarios.

I believe DTG did a great job! As this sim continues to grow, I believe that you can see phenomenal potential. Yes, there are many areas that they are working through, but time will take care of that. Ultimately, in my opinion, this could be considered the cutting edge of Train-Simming.

After a slightly extended play, not so impressed.

In "Journey" mode, you cannot resume where you left off - it throws you back to the beginning of that particular story.

The wretched XP is now everywhere and even pops up to tell you what it's been awarded for. 30 XP for staying under the speed limit - this is firmly aimed at the console kiddies.

Trans Pennine might have looked better but elsewhere business as usual. GWML still washed out looking and jerking along when an AI train hits the next tile. No approach control onto junctions (you cannot drive this route without the helper icons displayed). West Somerset still looks sterile as ever.

Apart from the 10% off the San Jose route the remaining individual routes are still listed at full price in the Steam store, unless you try and buy the whole bundle for £24.99 but I don't think that even includes the new Teeside freight route.

Oh well, back to ETS2 for me.

Chiming in to say that I too am satisfied with the Caltrain route. I was an easy market in that back and forth / stop-and-go commuter runs are my forté, but this addon exceeded my expectations. I think the scenery quality, train quality, audio, physics, and gameplay immersion factor are definitely the best yet for Train Sim World. Yes there are a couple errors, bugs, and things that the dev team could have paid slightly better attention to before release, but I don't want to detract from this thread by turning my comment into a compilation of errors. And while you can see how DTG is trying to appeal to console players with the way the game is scored, I don't mind having the instant scoring feedback, and plus it's very easy to ignore if it doesn't appeal you. All in all, the Caltrain route is a big step forward for Train Sim World and is well worth the purchase price.

My initial impression of the CalTrain route is positive, and that it’s a step forward for TSW. Sounds are good, horns are prototypical I think? Looks good, well detailed. Wide variety of services to operator (local, limited stop and baby bullet). Need to play with it more to form a full opinion.

I grew up around commuter rail so I’m also an easy sell for a route like this (please god, let there one day be a GO Transit route!)

But yeah I need to figure out how to turn off the xp notifications.

I may take a look at Caltrain when it goes on proper sale, i.e. 40 to 50% off at Christmas. Appreciate the OpEd's that it shows improving quality as indeed did our UK Trans-Pennine route. The issue is that somewhere along the line of improving the core engine and the standard of new DLC, they need to consider a rework of the original routes - in particular Sandpatch and GWML - with a makeover to bring them up to 2019 expectations.
