Considering how realistic much of the route looks, how long did it take the developers to build this route? How many polygons do those rollingstock items use?

Can they be modified to be used in MSTS?

Considering the way the rollingstock is built I don't think anything for RW or TSW is backwards compatible to MSTS. These three sims are completely different built with different graphical engines. MSTS could be "updated" with a lot of work and very poor graphics to work in RW but it can't go backwards.

If the Source Files are present, any model can be exported to Train Sim World, Train Simulator, Microsoft Train Simulator , Trainz A New Era etc and any other game.
Since the platform are different, no exported model can be used interchangeably in any other simulator and vice verse.
However I had seen some people converting Microsoft Train Simulator models to other games.
In Train Sim World, I suspect the poly-count must be in millions, as the whole passenger coach must have been modeled including interiors , where we can go any where inside coach and sit on our choice of seat.
Unless Train Sim World Developer Development Documents and SDK arrives, this statement is null and void. !!*ok*!!

This route announcement got my attention, as a result of which I have what may well be a noob question: are each of the TSW routes stand-alone, or do I need to get CSX Heavy Haul as a basepack? Thanks kindly for any comments or advice.

Yes, CSX Heavy Haul contains the core game files.

Anyone have more info?

The route begins in Newark, NJ and ends in New Rochelle, NY. Two awkward points for a route in my opinion, but I'm sure others will disagree.

I don't think they will come out with any kind of tools and that because of the unreal code will have to be given away and I don't think they will let then do that. But, hey I could be wrong. You will need Heavy haul for it to work if you want NEC route.

I feel I must point out that Dovetail staff have made repeated statements saying they intend to make it possible to modify TSW. The question of how to achieve this without releasing DTG's source code seems to have been the big stumbling block. The latest comments from Dovetail staff indicate that they have found a way round that issue. Quite how they achieve that and when it will be possible for anyone other that DTG to modify TSW is another matter altogether.

Frankly I'm flabbergasted that after three years or so development and one year after release DTG have still not released any means to modify TSW. IMO this points to inadequate preparation & research by DTG before starting development. However hindsight is easy so I won't dwell on that subject.

Thanks for the answers, but that comment was just tongue in cheek. I am aware that they would look close to the existing MSTS models due to graphics constraints, and the existing MSTS ones would probably be less likely to have issues!

Interesting regarding the source code issue DTG should have thought about this well before releasing the game. I wasn't aware that this was (possibly) one of the main contributors to the unusually long delay between the release of the base game, and tools.

In 2033 there will probably be OpenTSW, so not sure what they're worried about anyway.

According to a DTG document posted here: https://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?328595-NYC-Route&p=1929998#post1929998, DTG have plans to bring the whole NEC to TSW ....

It also sheds some light on the planning, creation and development of a route.

Sumitsingh is also a member here, perhaps he can post his private link directly in this thread too?
