Update 2 Released
29 MARCH - DTG_JAMES
Following on from last weeks post as detailed below - we are now releasing Update 2 to all TSW: CSX Heavy Haul owners which addresses the following issues/bugs:

FULL PATCH NOTES

Patch Size: 600mb

Load/Save Issues
  • A Crash on loading previous saves has been identified and we believe resolved
  • The dispatcher not being properly re-initialised on reloading some saves has been resolved
  • We have identified some control states on the locomotives and rolling stock were not being restored correctly on loading and have rectified this
  • Objective markers were sometimes not re-appearing on loading a save game.
Optimisation
  • We have found some issues with the render distances for Splines and Foliage to be set too far out and have reduced these to more appropriate settings for a decent performance improvement.
  • Some work has been done to optimise the tasks going on for managing AI trains in the background and reduce their overhead.
  • We have reviewed dynamic shadow casting and optimised how and where this is being done.
  • We have removed unnecessary shadow casting from lights in the menu background for a good framerate improvement while in the menu.
  • There have also been a few other minor optimisations to various areas around the game.
Keyboard Support
We have added support for the following keyboards:
  • Turkish
  • Russian
  • Czech
  • US_International
  • Swiss German
  • French
  • French Canadian
  • Polish
  • Spanish
  • Italian
  • Arabic
Rail Vehicles
  • Incorrect ditch light behaviour on GP38-2 and AC4400CW has been fixed
  • Culling on SD40-2 when looking at rear wall has been fixed
  • The Dynamic brake on the HUD was showing positive amps when it should be negative, this has now been fixed.
  • Fuel consumption values for all three locomotives have been adjusted.
Gameplay
  • A number of achievements were being issued simultaneously for incorrect reasons, these have all been reviewed and are now working correctly.
  • We identified an additional situation in which a train could derail and not cause the end-game sequence to trigger.
Audio
  • Compressor and Brake discharge audio volume has been increased
  • Missing hand brake chain sound on box car has been added
  • Whistle board had an electrical hum sound, this has been removed.

Update 2 will download automatically from Steam and will be approximately 600MB in size.

Quite a list of items changed. Good work, and keep this up, DTG.

Here are the items addressed in this build 49:

Load/Save Issues
Further work has been done on identifying entities not correctly persisting and restoring state.
Identified and fixed the cause of some voice overs occasionally not playing on restore.
Optimisations
This build contains the first of our multi-threading improvements. In this build, SimuGraph® will use as many CPU cores as are available, to concurrently evaluate SimuGraph processing on all rail vehicles. This reduces the FPS impact when you sit in a locomotive, and should deliver a greater benefit if more cores are available. We are continuing work in this area.
Improvement to non-player train physics performance.
Other optimisation improvements, particularly when interacting with the AC4400CW IFD screens.
Reviewed and corrected lighting setup on rail vehicles.
Changed foliage MiP handling to improve the distant view and deliver a performance improvement.
Keyboard Support
We have added support for the following keyboards: Norwegian, Danish, Bulgarian (non-phonetic), Finnish, German(IBM), Portuguese, Swedish, French Canadian Multilingual, French Canadian Legacy, Spanish Traditional / Spanish, Spanish Variation, Slovenian.
Rail Vehicles
General improvements to the brake pipes.
Audio
Missing coupling audio added.
Engine audio improvements.
Horn audio improvements.
Improvements to the Cab Occlusion system.
Known Issues
RARE: Inability to pause the game. (We are still investigating this issue. If you are experiencing this, we do want to know more – please let us know!)
The Train Sim World update is available for you to test on Steam. To subscribe to the Update 3 Test Build, follow these instructions:

Subscribing to Test Builds
Load Steam and navigate to your Game Library.
Right-click on Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul and select Properties.
Select the Betas Tab and from the drop-down box, select u3tb from the list.
Click Close and Steam will automatically begin to download.
It’s important that you share your feedback with us, you can do this below on the Steam forums or by submitting tickets to our Support Team.
The Train Sim World Update 3 Test Build download will be approximately 550 MB in size.

Another boost of frames for me and I've been able to crank settings up more. Now using High shadows from medium and have still slightly better frames. Pretty smooth too and that was testing with autumn mist which tends to hit me a little on frames. Big diference for me was jumping in cab only gave a one frame hit. It now looks stunning, better than I had hoped to run. DTG doing a cracking job so far. Just wish there was a little more to do on the route.

We are in beta phase after all.

I don't notice much of a difference in pure fps performance on my AMD FX rigs. The game appears smoother however.
CPU is now at 60% average on FX4130, and GPU at 90% on 980Ti so finally that powerful GPU is utilised almost full.
In the meantime, I've found out that AMD FX processors are inherently "weak in the chest", despite their 4 GHz clock speed.

An Intel I5 7600 and Z170 motherboard will be delivered to my home tomorrow. By tomorrow night I will probably have set up TSW on the new computer comparable in specs to the majority of you.

Now checking out the other changes, like the brake hoses being reeled in from high above on passing trains.
FAILED: brake hoses are still reeled in on the well cars.

I agree! Update 3 has improved my FPS with +6 !!*ok*!! Another thing i noticed is that the sim itself is running "smoother", it still stutters at 3440x1440 but there is certainly an improvement over previous builds. Meeting AI on previous builds had the sim going into a slideshow/stuttery mess. It still stutters but runs more fluid if that makes any sense. Nice to see DTG working on improving the performance issue.

Edwin. Please check the the number 8 view when you have the chance. Same service as you checked for me last time. Its weird. I have +6 FPS on all views of Q353 except view 8, still at 27 FPS.. I dont get it !*don-know!*

I will check again.

I presume the AI and any static trains in a yard don't use all the physics the player train uses. AI takes off like a F1 car and doesn't seem hampered by speed limits and the rule that the train is only allowed to accelerate once the last car is out of the limit. Hence, optimising the Simugraph stuff has little effect on that particular view, and since there are no trees in close LOD proximity, that other optimisation also yields no result.

Trees and other objects "changing colour" and texture when approaching is inevitable with limited draw distance, even on max settings.

However, I don't know what causes this:

A gain of FPS for me with the latest update! !!*ok*!!

However, I am having a crash every time I use the GP38 for more than 10 minutes? It does not happen while using the other locomotives. Is anyone else experiencing a crash while using the GP38?

Edwin, what scenario/service is that.? I have some time tomorrow and will look for your floating hill of trees.

Boos1, Il take the GP38 for a spin tomorrow and check if it crashes the sim. What scenario/service?

Last update has sent me into the realms of, on average 30FPS, even the dizzy heights of 36 from the lowly teens and twenties !*YAAA*!
So managed to enjoy a turn at long last aboard a pair of GP38's, they worked ok for me. The turn was Q375.
