List of errors and points of improvement

List of errors and points of improvement

Unread postby _o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha » Sat Mar 18, 2017 4:03 am

I've compiled a short list from the recent postings and my own findings:

Anything else?

Train Sim World 2017 release version 20170316

    Operation Errors
Train doesn’t go into emergency when pin is pulled
Trains pass through each other when colliding
EOTD handling and operation? EOTD is working and reports back to the cab in Scenarios and Services, but has no hose connecting to brake hose.

    Simulation Errors
    Unrealistic acceleration
    Unrealistic "cruise control"
    No cab movement/shake and sway

    Modelling Errors
Wrong type of couplers on certain cars
Brake hoses and m.u. hoses too short and too flexible
Drop steps drop but safety chains do not connect to opposite unit
Mirrors non-reflective when in operating position? Mirrors reflecting a different type of weather?
    Specularity (shine) on rolling stock
    Cab occlusion "nuclear glow"
    Headlights shining through cars

    Emitter Errors
Smoke colour and intensity don’t vary with engine load
Headlight emitters vs headlight nodes visibility from distance
Sound doesn’t change back when returning from external views

    Environment Errors
Smoke goes through solid objects like roofs
Rain and snow fall in covered spaces and tunnels
    Direction of current in rivers
    Tunnel occlusion

    General Inconveniences and Errors
    Only one save slot
    No RailDriver support
Taking other than pre-destined train in scenario not possible?
"9" map is difficult to read and operate
throwing manual switches in front/rear of the train

    Scripting Errors
    Flashing ditch lights on AC4400
Scripts not properly re-intialised after restarting a Paused/Saved scenario?

    Performance Issues
    Scaling over multi-core multi-threaded CPU’s
Balance between CPU and GPU load
    PhysX dedicated to nVidia GPU?
    SSAA not present?
    Keyboard controls priority?

    Desirable Features
    Custom key mapping
Jumping to front and end of train
    Custom HUD position and contents
    Footprints in snow
    Spattering rain, puddles in rain

How to report these to DTG in a constructive manner?
Is there a public bug tracker?

Is it a good idea to keep this list updated and maintained? I volunteer myself.

Great idea _o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha. I haven't had enough time in the sim yet to make a thorough review, but I have one thing, ( first impression ) the sounds of the engines needs much more "grunt" and "base" to them. Thinking of searchlight simulations sound packs, that's what these engines really sound like!

I have bought and returned it. See http://railworksamerica.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=18204&start=90#p209436

Does this mean I am out of contention?

I will not mind maintaining a list, but rather have an official bug tracker over at DTG's somewhere to keep tabs on progress.

No just curious why you are so interested, especially now that I know you refunded already.

I am just hoping for the best train simulator, the best aspects of all the other sims combined, to go with those graphics.
I was very disappointed and somewhat angry at that moment.
Now, I silently regret the refund, but it leaves me with enough time to read and interpret all the threads on the diverse boards.
And to assimilate them into this listing.

My fingers itch to start finding out the secrets, start tinkering with it .... !*drool*!

Mirrors non-reflective when in operating position

This was mentioned during Matt's stream on Friday night. Apparently it gobbles up fps like nobody's business if enabled so it's got the chop. No word on whether it might come back at a later stage.

This is a very good initial list of issues. You could submit them via the DTG bug tracking system at: https://dovetailgames.kayako.com

In my experience (so far) they are being pretty responsive to reported issues, especially considering it's the weekend now.

Mirrors work fine in American Truck Simulator, so taking the ATS example, DTG could have an option in the settings for mirror detail: None, Low, Medium, and High. No need to force anyone to use it, but having the option stops much of the negative chatter about mirrors. *!rolleyes!*
Cheers!

DCS combat flight simulator also has working mirrors, plus cockpit displays of the guided weapons active targeting camera that can be independently controlled by the HOTAS. DCS is no slouch of a simulator either.
It probably ranks with the best simulators of any kind, despite its niche market of very dedicated players.

With a capable multi core processor, rendering multiple viewports in TSW shouldn't be a problem.

Edwin, could you please add to your list of Desirable Features, footprints in the snow and ALL freight trains to have an EOTD as a standard default procedure.

Footprints in snow? You mean a whole trace of them? Or just a say a dozen yards in your track?

I added spattering rain and puddles in rain, GTA V has them, and they are way cool. I noticed the locomotives get wet on the outside in rainy weather, and become even more shiny.

I am struggling with EOTD's at the moment, they seem to be part of consists in Scenarios and Services but apparently disappear at random. Shift F3 takes you to the rear end to inspect them. The EOTD has a digital read out of brake pipe pressure that is mirrored in the box on the control stand. But then that box often blinks when pushers are at the rear end and the EOTD has disappeared. Perhaps EOTD's are worthy of their own thread?

Footprints, well, I'd suggest 10/20 yards behind you, having any more would need more PC resources, it was just for show really.
Yes, the EOTD is a bit of a nuisance, they should make them obligatory on every train, of course, that possibly may mess things up when switching 1/2/3 wagons around in a yard, as they generally have a red flag on the end operationally, so, it's a scripting/programming problem that obviously requires more thought on.

Lots of games/simulators have working mirrors. Can't remember which ones as I have lots of games/simulators. :)

Any respectable driving/racing simulator/game. ATS, ETS are prime examples of large world driving simulators. Some even have adjustable mirrors.

Mind that the mirrors work on the GP38 and SD40 when you stick your head out of the window. They just cannot be unfolded anymore it seems, while in the alpha they could and went dull grey.
