Now that TSW is out, here is the complete list of achievements: Stuff that I never noticed before release is the stuff marked in NEW
Travelling:
Image Centurion: Travelled 100 miles in any locomotive
Image Mega Train: Travelled 1,000 miles in any locomotive
Image Unstoppable: Travelled 10,000(!!!) miles in any locomotive

Image Trailblazer: Travelled 1 mile on foot
Image Pilgrimage: Travelled 100 miles on foot
Image Exodus: Travelled 1,000 miles on foot

Using things:
Image Switcher: Changed a track switch
Image Switch it Up: Changed 500 track switches NEW

Image Making Connections: Coupled to your first train wagon (this one uses the wagon terminology for some reason)
Image Powerhaul Prep: Coupled to 1,000 cars NEW

Image Miner Achievement (putting achievement into the achievement name seems redundant): Loaded a coal car
Image Carbon Overload: Loaded 1,000,000 tons of coal (or a bit more than 8000 bethgon cars....yeah...) NEW

Image Hinge Breaker: Used 1,000 doors (I bet you don't need to go to then use 1000 unique doors, however)
Image Ventilator: Used 1,000 windows

General Progression:
Image Rookie: Completed the Introduction
Image Qualified Engineer: Completed all tutorials on Sand Patch Grade NEW

Image Railfan: Took a screenshot
Image If you build it...: Built a consist of 100 cars
Image Connoisseur: Collect all collectables on a route (note that it says A route, not specifically Sand Patch) NEW

Image Going the Distance: Completed a full service
Image Workaholic: Completed 100 full services on any route NEW
Image Mission Possible: Completed all services on a timetable in Sand Patch Grade (this is one of the only Sand Patch specific ones) NEW
Image Super Sand Patch Grade: Completed all scenarios on Sand Patch Grade NEW

Secrets: (picture and name, but no description)
Image Wheelhouse Master: Performed a 360 degree turn on the turntable (I can see why this is a secret one; nobody is going to bother to do a full 360 turn in normal operations)NEW
Image Casey Jones: Attained Driver Level 20 (an underwhelming secret for sure) NEW

Compared to TS17, these achievements are much more generic, none of them specifically says "use the AC4400CW for this" or "complete this scenario perfectly." In fact, these could all apply to a route other than Sand Patch (the coal loader is the only route specific achievement, and coal isn't exclusive to Sand Patch anyway.) At the same time, these are also many more long term achievements. In TS17, if you played all the scenarios in a pack and lost no points, then did some quick drive, you would probably get all of or most of the achievements. I don't see driving 10,000 miles happening very quickly at all. That one is certainly a mark of someone who has spent a ton of time in TSW, which, weather laughable or respectable, is impressive.
Some of these achievements are basic as usual, but some of these are actually worthwhile and difficult, while also not being distracting to the gameplay attitude.

And so the toy box syndrome continues -- no surprise, of course!

I don't mind achievements or XP points. I just get frustrated at the number of career scenarios that don't work right.
Although some of that is my doing, from modding engines.

Nevermind driving 10,000 miles, how about walking 1,000 miles?

Reminds me of a song...

I really don't get why some people are triggered by achievements, points, trading cards, collectibles, etc. It's truly a waste of time to complain about them because DTG isn't gonna do anything about those complaints. These are all low effort features that don't distract from anything else while still adding motives to do things - like exploring all the parts of Cumberland Yard to find those posters - which some people wouldn't do otherwise. If you don't like them...don't waste your time caring about them, because you can't really claim you don't care about them if you go around complaining about it.

For the record I wasn't complaining, more thinking wow that's a lot of sim walking!

Perhaps these are features only the Konsole Kiddies appreciate?

Does Steam keep tabs on these achievements, so we can check if the rewards are actually being granted?

I believe that's supposed to be some sort of pun...maybe "Minor Achievement"? *!lol!*

Now we know TSW is more akin to a FPS (scenarios, accomplishments, badges, etc). I cannot wait to see what 'accomplishments get added to the list -
1. Starting a locomotive
2. Turning a locomotive on a turntable
3. Shutting off a locomotive
This is an Xbox FPS- like game!

I think the point is that what TSW is only about - achievements, levels, first person scenarios - not about having a modifiable platform for train operations simulation. The effort is going into first person stuff, not core platform stuff like editors.

Dude! How many threads are you going to post this pure speculation in? You're making some big assumptions fron one sentence! It will be out in a few days. Get a grip. Relax. We'll find out what it's about soon enough, and I suspect your "only about" FPS-like stuff will look pretty silly. For one, I seriously doubt the S in FPS has any relevance, and TS has been FP from the start. TSW looks to be about running trains, just like TS. I suspect the similarities to vastly outweigh the differences.

Gotta hand it to you, though, for most creative way of violating Bob's recent injunction not to start moaning and complaining as TSW is released. And you didn't even wait for release! Which makes sense, since your sky is falling projections wouldn't really work after the fact, I suspect.

Get a grip. You totally mistake my motives. I really, really want TSW to succeed because I was looking forward to finally moving to a platform that I can deliver models and routes that I've built and want to convert from MSTS/ORTS.

Please calm down everyone. We are talking about a simulator not the healthcare laws.

Leave it to the internet to overcomplicate and overdramatize everything. TS17 has achievements. I don't see anyone calling TS17 an XBOX game because it has 959 achievements, I don't know why TSW would be different. But I do know why you guys would consider it differently; you love drama. The only thing making TSW an XBOX game is your perception of it, don't want it to be an XBOX game? Then just ignore the achievements and save yourself from wasting the time complaining about them (and complain about what really matters, please-that actually helps).

I quit collecting merit badges when I was fourteen or fifteen however if it is your goal that's fine. If you love to make mods then we will see if we will be able to do that or stay with TS2017. If you are a third party developer and this new sim doesn't allow that then you can stay with TS2017. Let's try to focus on what the new thing can and will do or not do. Many of us have different reasons for being involved with train simulators so let's not criticize each other for different tastes. Let's just focus on what we do or don't like of the features of the new sim when it comes out. Remember we still have TS2017 and all it brings to the table if we find the new sim to be restrictive for our particular interest.
