TSW Beta 9 first impressions?

Unread postby _o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha » Thu Dec 08, 2016 2:22 pm

Nice graphics, but poor performance on nVidia 1080 and 4 GHz 16 GB PC? I expect more than 15 fps, when GTA V all maxed out can run at >30 fps. GPU is not even spinning its fans??

Brake hoses and m.u. cables swinging like mad

Cab doesn't get pitch dark inside Sandpatch tunnel

No raindrops on the windshield

My 960 is clocking 30-40fps. :p

Its amazing, I can't describe it in works.

Hiya,

1 - hoses do bounce around if you have a very low framerate - working on both
2 - rain drops are on screens.
3 - tunnels and cab darkening not in this build.

thanks

Thank, Derek for hopping in.

Of course this is still a beta, so issues could crop up.

There is mention of a Quick Start Guide, but the forum doesn't show it? Where does one insert the code TSWORLDBETA16?

Gamepad controller suggest a VR like approach to operate the levers and switches in the cab. But TrackIR not yet implemented?

That was underwhelming!

First comments:
I still need to learn to walk and navigate better. I ended up in the coal vans and couldn't get out. Which key is for moving upward? shift or ctrl+ cursor keys seems not to work.

I also could not yet locate the promo code that gices access to the manual through the forum ....

Finally, which keys operate the automatic brake?

I got it working with some trouble 8Gb memory is a bit low for this game,. I created an additional user, switched off all other stuff and then finally got it working with hig res still framerates of 14/15 fps for my GTX660 graphics card. So start saving for a mew PC for next year ...

When you have registered at forums.dovetailgames.com, open up your profile page.
Look for the Preferences in the left column, and click that entry.
inside Preferences there is a field lower on the page where you can put the code.

The TSW forum is up now, but no Quick User Guide or other docucuments yet. I suppose these explain the sligthly different key assignment and how to move around inside and outside the train, etc.

Probably takes some more time for guides etc. to appear.

My first reaction is I am getting 15-17 FPS for the most part. On a few stretches where there wasn't too much going on it leaped all the way up to 21.

Computer specs are 4Ghz I7,16 megs ram and a GTX960 with a Z97 MSI motherboard. Not good.

As for moving up and down, I believe you have to simply look up and then move forward, or look down and move forward. Sort of like in the current editor mode.

Which graphical setting were you running at? Hopefully that was on High or Ultra..

There are a lot of poor performance comments on the Steam forum also, mostly by players using high end components. I just acknowledged the default settings (Ultra) but some players have gotten slightly better frame rates by lowering the settings.
There aren't a lot of settings in the user interface, and a quick browse through the game folder found no config files to open.

The draw distance is quite limited, track only becomes sharp like two dozen yards in front of the engine.

Over the next couple of days more information, bugs and tweaks will surface, and before you know it, the beta phase is closed.

Yes I noticed the grass was only propagating a few feet out in front. BTW most of this was at 20 to 30 MPH. Hate to think what it would be like at 60.

Works fine for me so far. Did the first tutorial then the first scenario. 15 to 18 FPS on default graphics settings but looks smooth. When I switched on the gauge lights for the first time there was a bit of a lag. Haven't tried the 2D map yet.

I get 35 FPS bouncing between 34 & 36 when I am the only train. I get 24 to 27 FPS when another train is coming by. It also seems like the LODs need adjusted and my tracks disappear (or appear) about 50 60 feet down the tracks. Even though the FPS drops when another train is coming, it is all still smooth. I get a small hesitation once in a while which I assume is scenery loading...

This is bad, but good. All this info is what betas are for. I would assume that people like Derek are looking at our (your, I'm not taking part in the beta) issues and complaints, so that they can work towards improcement.
Also, Buzz, those are essentially my specs, so a but of minor concern there for me too.
