Clear and definite message. Love that PR person being upfront honest after all the promises and lies from DTG staff and their mouthpieces. He is thoroughly housekeeping the in-house DTG forums too. Time to say goodbye (thanks, no thanks!) to the TSW1 players and trying to keep the new TSW2 players unspoiled -and- on board the franchise.

They also mentioned ‘legal reasons’, what could these be? Epic fees, licenses from operators and manufacturers? Other copyright? UE4’s DRM? No further explanations from DTG, but someone here might know?

Note also, you won’t get anything gifted by DTG. You have to buy their new game, subscripting to their business model and even more promises and hope for the best.

MS or any other game studio wanting to compete for the train driving games market? Depends on the success of TSW2 on the consoles. TSW2 for the PC will not be DTG’s main market anymore. Unless you’re a gullible fool who wants to volunteer as guinea pig, I think DTG will gladly leave the PC market behind. Too many demanding but now ticked off customers, too many different hardware to deal with, etc. Dealing with the closed platform gaming consoles is easier and makes more sense business wise. Partner Program allows a step up in DLC production, one new level each month?

Good luck to TSW2.

Train Sim World 2 Article Reaction

In 2019 they stated:
“The UE4 Editor is a Windows PC only application; it won't be possible to use it to create content on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4.
We're looking into some potential options for console owners to join in the fun in some other ways for the future but the UE4 Editor itself will be exclusively for our PC players only.”

Now they say -
Here's the nitty-gritty on the content editor as of today - it's a work in progress.
It is significantly more complex than the TS20 editor because it first requires Unreal Engine which comes with a rather sizable amount of licensing bureaucracy that isn't easy to navigate.
It also requires a higher level of understanding from users to be able to make headway which is not in itself a deal-breaker, but our goal is to make the TSW editor more user friendly than what has come before rather than less.
Oh, and the final requirement is that console players must also be able to use it. It's important to us that those playing on PlayStation or Xbox aren't treated as second class citizens.

What a hypocrisy.. !*hp*!

These are good people with good intentions. Unpredictable reality sometimes steps in - technical reality - legal reality - whatever. And plans change. What they truly thought was possible at one time, turned out to be harder than predicted. And the situation may change again - solutions may appear. Enjoy the hobby with the programs and tools we have. TSW is fun for a turn-key, hop in the cab and go experience. No tinkering or troubleshooting or downloading or fixing needed. Some days that's just what you need.

DTG knows their addons can not stand in quality wise in front of 3rd Part Developers.
So they decided to hold the editor till most of 3rd Party vanishes.
A trick to capture the market.

Makes perfect sense, concerning the console market. When properly done, DTG might have a hit franchise in the making. There should probably more challenges and variations in game play, which means the game will turn away from rail transport simulation more and more. Unless they emulate the business model of Derail Valley, which is quite challenging and would even be applicable to a gaming console.

There might be a problem rising once there will be a lot of DLC: storage space on your console. Esp when there will be some interoperability (sp?) between various DLC using this Scenario Creator and your game folder grows to 3-4-500 GB.

So my small TSW1 is now "Preserved" and I don't know what to do with it. Hopefully, the Czech fellow will stick hack away at it and open up the game a little. Otherwise it will be deleted, money down the drain and never DTG products again.

TS20xx will always be my Train Simulator (and I will always call it Railworks too.) TSW didn't remain installed for long and I am so glad I won it in a screenshot contest here. Trainz 2019, to be honest is a fun game and is easy to tinker with. I think of it as a Model Railroad Sim. I don't think of TSW at all.

And while we are dumping on DTG, I just want to point out that they are serving the market they want to serve and serving it well. The problem from our viewpoint is that the market they are serving is not us.

And since this is so far off topic already let me add that if Microsoft ever does a new "train sim", it will be more like TSW than anything we would want, a closed system, subscription based and no 3rd party, so do not think MS will be our savior. Their purpose is to accumulate wealth, not cater to a small niche market. If and when the new MS airplane flying game is released we will all be glad we have FSX.

Now, I understand that I could be wrong on some of these things, but there it is.

Train Sim World 2 Article Reaction

Recently bought TRS19, I must admit I should had bought it a year ago.
Content creation is well explained by N3V through their Wiki and Youtube, plus the community also is very helpful while treating newbie.
For those who complain about Trainz being a Model RailRoad simulator, I do not see this so true.
Here something I am sharing, worth looking at -

The scripting language is more versatile than Lua 5.0.2 !*brav*!
Parallax effect looks promising than TSW flat ground surface.
All contents are mostly created ny 3rd party so great quality control.
A must try.

I own Trainz 2019 but really had a hard find finding quality content. I know there is some out there, but I found their download system convoluted, hard to find popular\highly rated content to separate that out from the chaff, and that it also had a lot of WIP and half finished stuff. If I could have figured out how to more easily add great content I may not have uninstalled it.

The Eastern European stuff in Trainz has always been first rate. Jointed Rail's US stuff is great too. But the rest? Most territories have very patchy coverage in the commercial DLC, locos but no matching cars, nor home routes? And the majority of the free stuff is outdated, if you can find all the dependencies first that is ...

But look at that British Diesel and notice the funny effects on the trucks regarding light and shadow? Not better than any of the other train games. Depends a bit wether you want to stay in the drivers seat only or look and walk outside in the virtual world.

So when it comes down to closed commercial against open and free or even open source games/simulations, progress on ORTS is very slow, and the freeware MSTS community is slowly dying, both figuratively and literally.
Derail Valley is getting along well, but isn't to anybodies liking, plus requires powerful hardware and VR headset for optimum enjoyment.
Run8 is the best when it comes to operations and physics/train handling. And allows dispatching over a very large territory with almost unlimited number of trains. Plus it has multiplayer if you really 'want to work for the railroad'.

There are more, from toy trainset games to fully fledged training simulations.

But when you want to create stuff, create layouts and 'play', there remain few: TS and Trainz.

Perhaps it's time for a Trainz Discussion Forum here so we don't have to hijack TSW threads.
