TSW anyone?

I agree on the freight car sounds. I live within a stones throw from the CN mainline (ex IC) south of Chicago. Even freights rolling by at 5-10mph. squeal and make lots of racket. What I miss in TSW, is the slack sound of starting up or stopping. Its unfortunate that TSW fiddled with your very acceptable sounds. I hope you can work on this.

Why would DTG talk with the Open Rails People or Run8 people? I could just see Paul Jackson asking OR if he can see their physics. Then I would love to hear the reply. Would you let DTG look at your source code to make their game?

Can anyone who has played a little into the Snow & Ice scenario confirm what speed they are managing to get up to on the climb to Rockwood?

I seem to be unable to get above 25 MPH which is at odds with what people are reporting with regard to the uphill physics on other scenarios/services. That combined with the difficulty starting the train has me concerned I'm raising a bug where it may be user error. So far as I can tell, all the brakes are released (including the handbrake on the loco and wagons) but there is just no impetus there at all.

Thanks.

My questions are;
after 10 years of railsimulator development, do we now have in TSW: Better sound effects, much better performance, far superior graphics even at lower end settings, amazing true to life physics, proper working signalling system, intelligent AI, human characters in areas other than railroad property both adult & children, particle collision effects (smoke that does not appear to go through solid objects) tunnels without white shiny bands in them and of course tunnel occlusion *!question!*

No to most of these.

Graphics are a plus for the most part, though.

The people are all hiding somewhere. I saw 2 people walking across a small bridge in a small town and other than that a few workmen on the side of the tracks. Maybe 5 people in all.

DTG did a huge job.

I agree! My processor rates below the minimum requirements and fps rates are, literally, in the red most of the time, but I'm still experimenting with assorted settings and the graphics and action are impressive. Don't neglect the "Services", at least one of which, beginning around the turntable, allows you to choose an engine, carry out its tasks, walk to another engine, carry out its tasks, etc: a sort of "rolling" scenario.

What all of us should do is to report our observations, both negative and positive, to DTG's Support area; what they haven't heard about they cannot improve.

There are several companies here in the US (FRA certified) and in Europe that specialize/consult in computerized railroad physics and dynamics. DTG only need to inquire...

An update on the crashing issues I'd mentioned up-thread:

1) Crashing on high-end systems with Nvidia 1080 GTX is improved when all anti-aliasing is turned off. HOWEVER, this exposes extreme strobing / crawling / moire in the graphics engine. It's really unpleasant and I'm guessing that the game & art weren't developed with the assumption that anybody would turn these off.

2) Performance only improves slightly when AA is turned off. Still MUCH lower that you'd expect for the hardware & much lower than other folks are reporting with slower systems.

Thanks,
Diego

No Marc is talking about on a Professional level.

If I recall correctly Marc did some asset creation for a RCL Beltpack training simulator about.... 7-8 years ago? The one BNSF uses for locomotive engineers (that looks like a potato but has the best physics (for obvious reasons) is made by Corys out of France. They wouldn't know butts about how anything sounds, but since they actually worked with GETS and BNSF on the simulator, you have accurate operations and 1:1 performance physics wise.

See: http://www.corys.com/en and notice we are spoiled by the graphics of TS17 and TSW!

Did I see a RailDriver in use by one of the simple desktop simulators?

More than likely, look here at a Crossrail training classroom in the UK.

Now that simple desktop simulator already looks a whole lot better ...

This effective system comes in around £25,000 a set including support.

It's for basic classroom training, full size multi million pound simulators are limited and therefore the time to use them is also limited. When you have such a large project and need to train several hundred new drivers at once, it's much more cost effective.

Many would be surprised to see our little hobby having a much larger real world application. :D
