TSW: Multiplayer

TSW: Multiplayer

Unread postby JerryC » Fri Mar 17, 2017 8:08 am

Admittedly, I probably missed the memo on this one. I don't read every fact-sheet and blog-post that is put out by DTG, so I need to ask.

Where is the Multiplayer? I'm not a great fan of it, but I have used it in Run8 and think it is effective (if you can get all the cats to herd together) in increasing the playability of the game. Also, being that it is 2017 and pretty much every other video game on the planet has it by default, why is it not available in the new game?

Already announced that it is in development and will be added at later stage, 3rd quarter rings a bell. In case some were wondering it has already been confirmed that it will be a free addition.

What kind of multiplayer is proposed/under development?

Hierarchic dispatcher/conductor/engineer/brakeman like in Run8, then we need a dispatching program and someone to dispatch and everyone else to obey him.

Cooperative multiple drivers, each player taking over an otherwise AI controlled train in a timetabled scenario?
What about DLC requirements? Single default route only, or blank placeholders if DLC not in possession?
What about obeying signals and train orders, throwing switches and changing direction while setting out or picking up cars?
I cannot imagine a free roam type of scenario with everyone going his own way, collisions are inevitable.
Perhaps DTG will offer servers to host sessions and control access to registered players and in good grace only? Booting the trolls, rewarding those that earn all the green ticks?

We must look further than the operational practice of US railroads.
Multiple passenger trains on tight schedules, mixed high speed passenger and slower freight operations, etc. etc.
Usually, MP requires some form of verbal communication such as Teamspeak. This in turn needs a server ...

From what I read a while back Multiplayer will happen, When? No clue, I am just like everyone else on standby. So far TSW is a work in progress, and I don't think they should have released a new "Game Engine" or "Game" until most if not all beta like issue were resolved. However with that being said, I can honestly say Train Simulator 2012-2017 had many issues that were addressed yet some that were not. I believe they will deliver unless the project takes a Turn, Like Microsoft Train Simulator 2 did.. **!!bang!!**

Good question - in the fullness of time DTG may get round to telling us...
