Yes the beta is not fully optimized.

I don't get it...
Shouldn't Items be optimized as they are available for the route, not some last ditch effort before release? That's exactly how to lose control of a project, to keep saying, later, later... that can be taken care of later. Next thing a person knows, they've got dozens or hundreds of little things that need doing.
Things like the LOD for the grass is a perfect example. Why would grass be spawning so close to the driver's view, this close to release?

A good analogy would be, I'll check the air in those new tires tomorrow, but lets go for a test spin now! !**duh*!!

It's the code that needs optimization, not necessarily the objects.
Cheers!

Think of it like an oil painting:

White canvas, quick sketch of details then a wash to rid us of the white canvas, Broad brush strokes to begin with, then build up in layers focusing on what is import.

Bit like this:

Has it been updated? Just a moment ago, Steam downloaded a ca. 350 MB patch and it says the beta now runs till Dec. 21. The news page mentions a few bug fixes, but nothing about frame rate improvements or other optimalisations.

Tsw Beta 10 Update released
Community Announcements - DTG_James
We have now released an update for the Beta.

Here's the patch notes:
We are extending the Beta period by two days and the Beta will now end on 21st December.
We have identified and provided a fix for the VicoDynamics.dll crash. This fix will improve compatibility with older Intel CPUs. If you're using an older intel CPU then you should find you no longer need to remove this file for the game to work. If you get a "fatal error" crash after the update however, you should remove that file again. Essentially this is because the VicoDynamics DLL requires a minimum age of CPU to support what it does, the crash means your CPU does not meet this requirement. Going forward, we are removing VicoDynamics DLL entirely and replacing it with an alternative approach. The VicoDynamics DLL is used to control the physics of the refuelling hose, removing it will only prevent that one aspect of the game from working, everything else should work fine.
The issue where the camera gets sucked in to the rail vehicles/couplers, and requires resetting with CTRL+0, has been fixed.
We have identified and fixed the major cause of the crash that occurs when entering the 2D map. Pressing 9 to bring up the map should now crash less often. We are not confident we have isolated ALL causes, but this seems to be the more prevalent one. We need your feedback and bug reports whether this has been resolved for you or not.
We have identified and fixed the cause of rail vehicles falling through the ground.

It loaded way faster for me, a few seconds until I had the DTG screen. FPS in game are the same as they were.

There is of course other fixes and ops and more code work being done but on a separate branch which includes the full route.
Making to many changes in this beta could introduce a whole host of other bugs so the update really was very focused.
And extended because the issues caused a few to not be able to experience the beta.

In other news we had Dovetail Games Christmas party on Friday and the effects are still being felt!

And people still say that DTG does not care. Sure sounds like they care to me.
