If I would have known that I wouldn't have bought it.

I can see the point in this but then again i cant. If you let people make repaints more people would want to buy the model because of the paint scheme. But i remember when Streamlines was the same way they didnt want people doing this.

But i would rather them say yes make repaints of the unit. They would still be getting paid to own the files.

A Statement from RRMods on Facebook to this very question.

RRmods.com Hi,
Thank you, yes this took 5 people over a year to create. At that its well over a thousand hours of my time alone this year. We don’t mean to slap anyone in the face. At that you are more than welcome to make your own private repaints. We simply don’t allow anyone to upload or distribute them. This has been our business model since 2004. Reason being is it’s our aim to provide the community with prototypical assists down to the bolt. That being said if someone were to repaint this unit into a Norfolk Southern unit and distribute it and later we create a NS prototypical model who would purchase? It would cripple our already small business. Keep in mind this market is extremely small.
Lastly, I hear you- I myself love doing repaints and understand where you are coming from. However, it’s a decision that has provided the breath of life for RRmods since 2004.

And here I was hoping that this GP40 wouldn't be subject to the asinine restrictions VRC put on theirs...and it ended up being worse. That's one sale you've lost right there. !*not-ok*!

I just don´t like this kind of answers.

This is the reason why I bought TSW in first place and later on, I froze it stopping playing it, until I get capable tools similar to TS2018 (or better) and original DLC that can be repainted.

Thanks God there is something like RWA in TS2018.

RRMods's excuse is such an utter cop-out. No Railworks dev that I can think of other than VRC has ever had restrictions like this (and even they still allowed some repainting), and yet road-specific models still sell like hotcakes even in the presence of free reskins. Is the Trainz community just more tolerant of this kind of thing?

In defense of RRMods. NO repaints/ modifications permitted is clearly stated on the descriptions page so it should be as no surprise to those who purchased it. I saw it and still purchased it. As to this policy affecting future sales this remains to be seen. I think it is a quality product and I enjoy using it. This forum is a reskinners/creators paradise so I can understand why people are upset about it because this is your passion.

I'm certain you have read every detail of everything you have ever purchased however many of us don't go into that detail Particularly since they were working with the great guys from Searchlight Simulations so I will take the advice of fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and shame on me. I guess I will just have to settle for another GP40-2.

I agree that Searchlight Simulations scope of work on that GP40-2 Phase II, is what gives this DLC an important difference over other good models.
If RRMods had to make several GP40-2 repaints and sell them, I would understand their policy. Otherwise...

Not buying this loco either, certainly not when it is $25, even at their introductory offer of $19.99 is still way too much for 1 loco and a couple of weathered versions, you can get Jerry's pack of GP40-2s for 10 Bucks.
And as for charging for 1000s of hours work is a bit of an anomoly, it took me 19 years to write a book, my publisher wouldn't pay for 19 year's work though, many author's are told to get stuff done within a couple of years, 3-4 maximum, it isn't the amount of time spent on it, it's what's inside it that counts, and that's the difference between a product selling at a good price, or, no sale at all.

Cheerz. Steve.

I agree with the argument for pricing.

If you guys look at their Trainz section for the Phase II GP, you'll see all the future skins that will come. Next is SP, I would wager NS or Gonerail after that.

I have purchased rolling stock from them during my Trainz daze. It is top-notch,no doubt. But they have always treated each skin as a separate locomotive/purchase. I was really tempted to buy their first RW release, just to support their effort. But I have NO use whatsoever for this UP GP 40 variant. I saw the no-skins policy from the beginning,so I was aware. But as far as I am concerned, once you legitimately purchase a mesh, offering free user-created repaints should just be part of the process. There are always specific variations of a model that would make it enticing to purchase an offshoot of the model. I would justify buying it again, that way. And I can see "selling" authorized (read licensed) skins at a fair price. I think the comment about VRC may be a bit harsh. I was one who encouraged him to do an undec GP 40 pack. Specifically non-dynamic,and he did. Unfortunately ONE re-skinner made him angry and he pulled the set. I wonder if the negativity in this thread may cause a similar situation with RR Mods? I really have been waiting for a non-dynamic GP-38/38-2,but I really do not think it will ever happen.

I got out of Run8 When they started bashing a guy for making his own repaints for himself. He didn't distribute them but they banned him from the multiplayer servers. The detail and sounds and several other reason are why I purchased this GP40. I never planned on repainting it and I even saw in big bold print at the bottom of the locomotive description "No repaints" I didn't care.
The price compared to the Trainz add-ons is disheartening to say the least.
