I have seen a number of DJJX ones for scrap service.

Many of these have cycled through numerous second owners for C&D and scrap steel service. Both the original use for coal transport as well as scrap and trash service offer plenty of modeling opportunities.

These are highly detailed and precision modeled cars.
Both cars have prototypical details with a special body style for the CWEX car.
RAWX cars were in service as of 2009.
Cars feature updated coal load texture and bump map textures.

Awesome models as always! But I am getting a weird coal texture on the RAWX cars.

And what's the backstory on the CWEX hoppers? The build date would lead me to believe the angled ends were the first design of the cars?

The coal textures have been fixed on the RAWX car as well as on the BN, NORX, and PSCX cars.

AFAIK, they were owned by Commonwealth Edison, the largest electric utility in Illinois, serving the Chicago and Northern Illinois area. Here's a video with the CWEX gons on the GM&O back in 1970s.

Go to the 5:50 min mark for a whole string of them and #3170. You will see two different paint schemes but no logos. At the end with the caboose you will notice another car with a CWEX 405X number.

Here are a few that were owned by the Yankeetown Dock Corporation in SW Indiana... Think Respondek owns them now, although I'm not for sure.

Those are interesting cars for sure. Think they were built by Ortner in 10/1971.
