~267K polys for a freight car? That's excessive. Looks good though.

It's all the rivets, which come off after the first LOD ~250 meters. The post did mention that these cars are for higher-end gaming rigs.

While I do understand this, wouldn't a normal map be easier on both performance and workload? I'm not trying to criticize here or anything, but throw 100 of these in a yard and it's going to drag a PC of any kind to its knees.

Yeah, I've played around with the idea of doing normal map and height map if supported. There's something about seeing a poly representation of bolts that's satisfying. But I understand about the performance hit. Will have to do some testing with the normal/height representation of the bolts.

I think it all comes down to just how much punch your computer has.

I designed a CSDPU Ortner Hooper that probably has more detail than gudio has on his cars. I put down 6 T2s, 50 hoppers, 4 midtrain helpers, another 50 hoppers, a caboose a two pushers and it all ran just fine. No lag and no crashes running in 64 bit. Now 32 bit was a different story. Crashed immediately.

I added a few AI trains, and added cars to the main yard and industries and cranked it up again in 64 bit and again I had no issues. In 32 bit the sim wouldn't even load.

So there's a whole lot of variables at play. Not everyone will get the positive results I did. It does look like if you're running in 32 bit you don't stand a chance.

I ordered the AOK (Arkansas-Oklahoma Railroad) 66510-66909 earlier this morning...... My payment has been confirmed and processed, yet I can't download the car. I think it's a matter if forgetting how. It's been a LONG time since I got anything from RRMods. I have sent a PM to RRMods.
