Plowing invisible snow

Hi All,

After completing a long streth covering the whole Donner Pass route in the spring I was ready for something completely different.

So I set up a Feather River Canyon winter scenario, which runs fine, but it seems the locomotives are plowing invisible snow.

Is there a setting somewhere that I should change, or is this a glitch I just have to live with ?

Those locos don't actually "know" if there's snow on the ground or not, it's just a particle emitter effect.

You would have to alter the bin file to get rid of that or maybe just change the season.

I look at it from another angle ....... :D ........ the issue is there is no snow on the ground. Is that a Quick Drive flaw ?

No read the previous post where your friend trying to be helpful said the engine doesn't know if there is snow or not. Did you try to set it to Summer?

Please be aware that this is a winter scenario. So the engine plowing snow could be considered normal.

In a quick drive you can do any season you like.

That is what I did. There is a screenshot of that in my initial post.

I give up. What I asked was whether it had snow in the Summer? I repeat the engines don't know if theere is snow or not. The feather river route ddoes not have snow. Oroville CA. does no get snow. Get it?

My setup was a winter scenario (there is a screenshot of the setup in my initial post). I do not know wether it can snow in the summer. The sim does generate snow in the Feather River Canyon winter scenario. Below some images from further up the route with weather not set to Clear but to Cloudy Snowing

It might be unique / exceptional / unrealistic to set the game to make it snow in the area of Feather River Canyon, but it does happen ......... :D

December 07, 2013 - Winterstorm Dion has left the Feather River Canyon as a winter wonderland. On the evening of December 6th, 2013, snow began to fall in Northern California. By morning, there was a solid 6 inches to one foot of snow covering the canyon. Here, BNSF 4576 leads a highline manifest across the Rock Creek Trestle as light snow begins to fall.

March 22, 2011 - With Donner Pass Shut down due to heavy snow, and a washout the UP are running trains over the Feather River Canyon. This cut of "K" Line containers on a westbound stacker stands out well against the white snow as they cross the Keddie Wye.

Those S.P. engines from Donner Pass are scripted to make snow whenever the Winter season is selected in a route. Donner Pass has snow when "Winter" is selected. It is however a problem on routes like Cajon Pass when winter is selected or on Feather river at lower altitudes where there is little or no snow.
This and the fact that running engines don't usually accumulate much snow, is why I don't like it when blowing snow is scripted into an engine.
It's a nice effect in the right situations, but limits the engine's versatility on different routes when the Winter season is selected in a scenario.

Cardinal,
There is a lot of clear explanations in this thread. I will put my 2Ç on this:

1)The engine is designed to emit white particles during a winter season. As it has been said, the loco doesn´t have the intelligence to know if there is or there is no snow on the "scenery" ground. It only reads the season is "winter".

2) The Feather River Canyon route was realistically designed by their authors to have snow only into the canyon, but not from Oroville to about where the tunnels start, after Lake Oroville (where you seem to be located).

The pictures you show are taken in the Canyon.

Aha, I get it. Thanks Eric and Jasina.

At higher altidues where there is snow it does look great !
