Future of TS2017

At the moment, I'm very much enthralled of and by TSW, but that doesn't mean that I'll be abandoning TS, where I can make my own scenarios and share them with others. TSW is the proverbial infant in swaddling clothes -- I find it quite impressive, but not enough to turn my back on TS. As for those other railroad sims, I've tried several of them in the past and found them unsatisfactory for a variety of reasons. Long live DTG is my motto.

I, for one, am not the type who will run out and buy a new product after initial release because I prefer to give it some time to evolve and prove itself. TS2017 is a marvelous sim that I foresee generating many more route and rolling stock add-ons as the years go by. I happen to be working on one of them right now.

Much like MSTS, I see TS2017 being kept alive by the train sim community long after it may be dumped from the market. No worries here!

Same here, there is a lot of life left in TS2017 and further. TSW IMHO is pretty nice and it is going to get better. But it has a lot of catching up to do to replace TS2017.

Well it would be nice to hear from DTG whether there are plans for a TS2018 upgrade this year.

Having just released a route for Trainz, I'm turning my focus to maybe creating one for TS20xx next (I've pretty much ruled out MSTS as the "old" editor induces too much eyestrain and I can't fathom the new third party one). However despite the assurances we've had, I kind of need some positive vibe that the future is secure, in particular that TSW is not going to compromise DTG financially and we end up with an orphaned unsupported product lingering on Steam.

Nobody can predict the future of business like DTG, they are only small and in the big and volatile market of computer games of no importance to financiers etc.

I think once a UK route and basic scenario creating and world editing stuff is released, TSW will pick up -when that route and these tools are well received-.

I am very interested in what DTG will bring for the UK: modern privatised plastic or classic BR steam and diesel? Supposing that modeling steam is still a bit too difficult right now, it would probably be something modern. Will Konsole Kiddies even like playing with steam locomotives and driving the Deltic?

For the Train Simulator range that has been around since 2012 I don't think much more can be done. No core upgrades certainly, all DTG's resources better be directed at giving TSW a good simulation core.

Would be nice if it was, but more likely a Class 360 EMU or a Class 800 IEP with simple controls - assuming of course there is still even a business case for extending TSW into the UK/European (or Asian/Australasian) realm of operations.

There still is quite a substantial flow of commercial TS2017 DLC from a variety of sources. But some of JT's latest offers for the UK market, or GBE/DSSLo for the German market appear to be very rushed, full of bugs or just plain unfinished and not worth their asking price.
