Well, now I finished the Baldwin RF16 and SD50 and NS Big 7s pack are almost released I can take out of the freezer this pack.
DD35, DD35A and GP35 will be included.

I hope we'll get one of these to use on Donner Pass. Southern Pacific didn't own any "A" Cab units, but they owned a few of the standard DD35s which were cabless booster units.
It's interesting to note the difference in brake hangers and the fact it has a bell and horn near the unit's centerline. They must have had basic controls to move them around a shop area.

Thanks to you both! The DD35's will look right at home on the UP or SP. The GP35 has enormous potential as there were dozens of buyers originally and second-hand. Your GP30 was very well done (both times) and this looks like the perfect compliment to it. The DD35 was originally a booster for the GP35. I think the demonstrator was a GP35-DD35-GP35 set. The "track straighteners" were limited by the long, rigid trucks; only UP and SP purchased DD35s, with SP only having 3 booster units. The 35-series had some inventive thinking with the electrical design and were somewhat unreliable. EMD transitioned to the more-reliable 40-series after only a short production-run of the GP35. The model was popular, however, and 1334 units were built in only a year and a half for 40 railroads. The GP30 and GP35 came at a time when American railroads were beginning to replace their oldest diesel locomotives, some of which were more than 20 years old.

I would love to see an Alco-trucked version of the GP35 as well. GM&O, Southern, Frisco, TP&W, and Ann Arbor had GP35's with trucks from traded-in Alco units. The Southern units are still on the road for the W&LE, as are the Ann Arbor units for Tuscola & Saginaw Bay. One GM&O unit survives unmodified. Some of the Frisco units were rebuilt by BN and still serve BNSF as GP39E's. The TP&W units were rebuilt by ATSF and still serve BNSF as well.

I've often wondered about the myth of the long trucks on those units. Those trucks are far shorter than the wheel base of a Road going steam engine like a Northern.

If they keep increasing the HP per unit on the modern units, they may have to rethink truck designs like that, to get the adhesion needed to put the Hp to good work.

Just think, a modern engine built like that with modern tech and powerpacks would be easily 9000Hp.
Plus give the trucks a self steering design...
Modern AC traction control with an inverter for each axle...

The SP DD35B's were equipped with basic hostler controls (4 notch throttle, independent brake valve, horn and bell valves). In one of Joe Strapac's SP locomotive books, there are a couple of pics of a DD35B being hostled around the LA Taylor Yard engine facility. The unit was operated from the center walkway. I grew up in the LA area during the 70's, and remember seeing these units in operation... on both the SP and UP. The SP units seemed limited to the LA area and the Sunset Route. They were also among the first units to go into storage at Taylor Yard, along with the U50B's. Considering the DD35 was really just 2 GP35's on a common frame, they didn't fare very well on the SP like the standard GP35's did. Anyways, it will be nice to see these units in the sim.

Wasn't the GP35 quickly discarded by the railroads? For they needed transition to reach higher speeds and their traction motors weren't as robust, prone to flashovers. The 40 range that followed already had alternators instead of generators?

A chunk of the SP GP35's were rebuilt and lasted into the UP merger. Some of the unrebuilt units lasted well into the 80's. The SP units were relegated to local and branchline service, although units assigned from Tucson would find their way into California via West Colton on road trains. Santa Fe's GP35's were rebuilt and lasted well into the BNSF merger. I remember seeing sets of 6 to 8 GP30/35's on the Barstow to San Diego manifest train. Santa Fe also used the GP35's on locals, branchline service, and even helper service on Cajon Pass. The WP GP35's were rebuilt by MK, and lasted into their UP merger, and continued service into the 90's on locals. BN rebuilt their GP35's into a GP39M's I believe. It seems the secret to keeping a GP35 around was maintenance and rebuilding to work around the unit's flaws.
