I've often wondered about the myth of the long trucks on those units. Those trucks are far shorter than the wheel base of a Road going steam engine like a Northern.
If they keep increasing the HP per unit on the modern units, they may have to rethink truck designs like that, to get the adhesion needed to put the Hp to good work.
Just think, a modern engine built like that with modern tech and powerpacks would be easily 9000Hp.
Plus give the trucks a self steering design...
