Better CAB for the SW1500 pack???

Unread postby j3richard » Wed Aug 03, 2016 1:50 pm

Is there a cab upgrade available for the stock SW1500 pack???

There is a fine selection of engines in the pack but it would be better to have more operating detail in the cab and with doors, windows and lights etc to make the engine come alive!

Is there a better SW xxxx available from another builder??

Example, look at the GREAT Alco S2 engine by "Dogmouse"

What say you???

When that pack came out in 2012 (at least, that's the date in the users' manual), the kinds of features you're asking about just did not exist in TS. From time to time, DTG decides to update rolling stock or routes and send out a free upgrade. Lately, according to their explanations, this tends to happen after they have received a lot of complaints about features that do not work properly, according to users. Evidently, that hasn't happened in regard to the SW1500s. Personally, I find a lot of recent cab interior "improvements" to be distracting frills. The only one I've seen over the past few years that is really worthwhile is the driver figure in the Voith Gravita, which turns to face in the direction of travel; unfortunately, the primary direction of the cab camera does not turn with it. The same engine features front & rear lights that switch ends appropriately.

Could movable windows, window shades, doors, etc. in TS engines be the equivalent of cell phone use in real motor vehicles?

!!howdy!!

Thank you for your reply and I appreciate your point of view. How ever I like to operate the engines from a more realistic cab operation. The difference between a train that you drive under a Xmas tree and a more immersive realistic one is in the detail of operation both inside and out. That is why developers are coming out with more advanced units some of which I am daunted to drive. The SW1500 pack is indeed old and is the only pack out there of this type which would make it a good candidate for an upgrade. The upgrades usually come with an advanced and more simplistic mode of operation.
Again thank you,
Papa

Well that'll sure encourage them... !!bang!! - good to have your point of view though

Try the SW1500 that comes with Marias Pass - that has headlights that work plus rain on the windows - not much, but a start...and with the rain you would want to keep the windows and doors closed anyway :D

I agree that the SW1500's need a serious makeover in the cab! !!*ok*!!

Developers please take note. I would pay $$$ for an updated package with all the new bells and whistles.
Let's bring these switchers back to life!

As far as it goes, I can only do sound, physics, and scripting. Changing the physical cab would require modeling that you may as well make a whole new model externally too..
