TS2017 which is released on September 15 2016 is the usual annual update that we get around this time and TSW (UE4 64-bit) is also coming a little later - beta in Dec 2015 and possible release Feb 2016? or have I misread that?

From DTG:
"This year, the annual iteration of the existing TSX core engine, our Standard Edition of Train Simulator 2017 features four of our newest routes from Germany, North America, Great Britain and France:"

and

" The Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul Beta will start in December 2016 and is just the beginning of the journey. We’ll be introducing the other key territory routes as and when they become available."

Yes that is how I understand it too Peter.

IMHO, it gives them a big head start over most 3rd-party folk.

yes having 3 locos set up is a nice head start. Im interested to see what the shaders are and if they even allow us to use them. Looks awesome.

I noticed in the minimum specs required, a broadband internet connection. I wonder if that means that it cant be taken off line (as we can for TS) or if that is only for initial download and activation? If it is the former, that definitely rules me out - only have a plug in dongle, which is not much good for anything serious. !*roll-laugh*!

Still, after all these years, finally have the NG and with the New Haven and Waynes Columbia Vally Pacific (hint hint *!lol!* ) its enough steam era routes to go on with. Could be wrong, but cant see any steam on the horizon in this new iteration for quite some time, given the complexity of the added modelling work now required.

**!!2cents!!**

!*cheers*!

(was certainly not worth getting up at about 3.00am for)

Just to tell you how excited I was about the announcement, I had completely forgotten about it until I got onto the TS forums this morning my time.

Curious to see, since it is on the UE4 engine, if other assets from UE4 creators can be immediately added into the sim. The UE4 Marketplace would have a trove of useful assets if they are compatible.

At least it wasn't the Death Star.

The choice of name makes me wonder if they're deliberately aping DCS World to piggyback in DCS's reputation for quality and get people to associate the two. Which makes me wonder if they're aiming for DCS levels of detail, which'd be absolutely amazing. Granted I don't entirely trust DTG to get it right, but as long as the simulation supports everything necessary to handle that level of complexity, we could be looking at some incredible third-party content down the road. I'm just crossing my fingers that they don't go the same only-apporoved-addons-allowed route as DCS for their DLC model.

This will be interesting since I have always felt that encouraging re-painting should boost sales since if I do a PRR paint and lots of people would like that then they would go buy the original payware so they could have this asset. Why the people in the death star allowed designers to put out that crap that can't be duplicated has always escaped me. Maybe they need to send someone off to marketing 101so they can understand what broadens interest.

I'm going to wait and get the full game. Chances are that people who have the beta when the full version comes out will need to buy the full version and won't receive a free upgrade from beta.

Allow me to crawl out from under my rock to reflect this:

(Q) “Will we be able to create our own routes when your new simulator gets released?”

(A) The tools that will allow players and partnered developers to make routes and other content are currently still in development. While we understand how much many of you like to enhance your hobby with our creativity tools, it’s important that these tools are built carefully, with the assistance of your feedback, to ensure they are as powerful and intuitive as we all need them to be.

This is going to be a slow process for content developers. I've mucked around with UR4 and Blender some. It's a massive thing, and needs TS-related specs to be useful. Perhaps the beta will open some of those doors for us.

Whatever floats your boat. Myself, I'm done with this old version. TSW looks very promising so I'm getting the beta as soon as I can. If I have to redo the Montana Rail Link route in TSW, I just may do that.
