JPG to DDS conversion - found a nice utility

Unread postby ChrisOnline » Sat Apr 27, 2013 8:12 am

I've seen various discussions here and elsewhere about creating DDS files so that RW_Tools can include thumbnail pictures of Routes to complete the menus. It seems complicated with the NVIDIA plugin download for Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro (assuming you have one of them!) and I had problems with it telling me it needed a picture size in multiples of 4 (even tho 256 x 128 is that!). So Googling the subject, I found a superb freeware utility called Easy2Convert JPG to DDS. I have no idea what it saves in terms of mip maps etc etc (all of which are beyond me) . . BUT IT WORKS!!! So just take a JPG screenshot of your route resized to 256 x 128 pixels, use this utility to create the DDS file, and RW_Tools does the rest. Here's the link to download for anyone interested: http://www.easy2convert.com/jpg2dds/

Yep, they also have a PNG to DDS. All three are free. Doesn't seem to affect the end result, regardless of the format of the source. I downloaded all of them while I was at it.
