Quick repaint/modification request

Unread postby DAL3294 » Sat Apr 20, 2013 8:31 pm

Hello, can anyone modify the NS C40-8 from eyein12 to the current NS horsehead paint scheme? All this would require is making the numberboard area white and replacing the logo on the side with the new one. Would love to have this repaint if anyone could do it.

Why don't you try marleyman's tutorial using peters NS font? The feeling of having one of your own repaints in the file library is indescribable! !!*ok*!!

I tried it on my own but cant get adobe CS2 and RWbinTool to agree on anything with the textures. If I import the DDS to CS2 and modify it, I get an error in CS2 saying the texture needs to be sized "in multiples of 4" yet when I do that and save it resized (I just make it 1 pixel wider to please CS2) it wont import into RSbinTool as that program says the file is incorrectly sized. Its like a never ending back and forth of resizing that wont work.

That should never happen. ACE and DDS both need to be sized the same way, so the texture you are exporting out of the game needs to be valid from the start (ie it won't work otherwise). At the same time if you are not resizing the texture while working on it in CS2 then you should not see this error. I don't want to point the finger at RWTools because I know it to be a reliable tool and does not resize textures.

Can you post step by step what you do to export, edit, and import your repaints?

Ok Ill post a step by step no problem,

1. Use RWbinTool to convert the tgdpsdx file into a readable DDS file.
2. Open DDS file with CS2 and edit colors/logos as needed.
3. Save DDS file with CS2 with exact alpha parameters as original file (this is where size multiple of 4 error occurs)
4. reimport new dds texture to original file format and name via RWbinTool. (cant even get here as the tool says the file isnt correctly sized?
5. Use new texture (note I got to this step once by resizing a texture to 1024x1024 and it did not display properly at all.)

Are you unseeing the Nvidia DDS plugin in CS2?

What is the exact message you are getting from the DSS conversion?

Yes the Nvidia panel comes up after I get and deal with the multiples of 4 error from CS2.

Try this.

Export from RSBinTool. Open the DDS in CS2, do not modify the image. Save the image as DDS and see if you get the error again. I want to determine if CS2 is doing anything to the image without you knowing.

Thats actually what may be happening because I suspected the same thing and tried what you said to no avail. I think we are on to something here!

This is where my knowledge of Photoshop gets shaky. It could be that you have a batch command running whenever you open an image. I don't know how to check if this is the case or not. Hopefully someone else can chime in and help.

Well when the window opens for CS2 to open the DDS it asks if I want to open it in 16 8 or 32 bit and with or without mipmaps?

OK, on that dialog I always use 'Load Using Default Sizes' and Load MIP and Load Flipped are both unchecked.
