OK guys. Help me pick a route to build. I would prefer it be in the Eastern half of the US, and be a Class I railroad. I'm leaning toward the CSX mainline between Selkirk NY and Syracuse NY, but I want your opinions. No short line switching routes for me. A mainline between 2 yards is good for me! Don't worry about what is too much for me to handle. Any suggestions guys? Fire!

Maybe something from North Carolina to South Carolina. There is a branch line from Greensboro, NC down all the way past Duke and into South Carolina. That would be interesting.

Perhaps something set in the 1930's, anything would be nice.

I think he's asking where not when but picking up on that thread I agree, someone doing a period piece from that era would be really neat for us steam freaks.

My suggestion is to do the route you want to do and then finish it.

Taking the advice of a good friend, I'm trying to see what the community would like. I would like to keep it a modern era route though...

How about the Denver and Rio Grande through New Mexico.
Even today it's still a breathtaking standard gauge route.

How about a bridge route, like the W&LE. Runs from Pittsburg to Toledo ( with track rights).

Strategically thinking........... anything CSX would be good since we have a growing amount of stock and few to no routes from RSC to properly run it on. Another thought, though it might be NS, is that there's a nice set of freeware assets already available for a Roanoke-Atlanta area route (I'd like to see that Roanoke Star and the RR Museum used). From personal experience I can say flatland routes are easier/quicker to build than mountain ones -- i.e., if you don't like building scenery 1/2 mile away from the tracks, don't do mountains. Lastly, the trend lately has been long distance routes, so perhaps a shorter, more locally interactive one is due. If you want to do a community route, that is... and it seems you do since you asked for suggestions. In the end (or the beginning?? lol), the most important consideration is the one Bob pointed out... if it isn't something close to your heart, it will be much harder to see it through to the end. Pick (or design) the route that THRILLS you personally the most!

Locking thread per starters request. Head spinning I think.
