Let's talk signals

Unread postby 5292nate » Sat Mar 09, 2013 7:09 pm

Hey guys. I am a new route builder, and would like to know what different kinds of signals we have. Actually, let me start by asking for those wiser than I to educate me, (and others) about the different types of US signals, and the names of the different kinds. I know there were a lot made by SMMdigital, and I know that they are gone. (At least for now.) I would like to learn about the names and types of signals used on he various class I US railroads. I've used google, but my luck in this field has been very slim.

Thanks a lot guys!

For example. Can anyone tell me what these are?

The second image looks like a searchlight signal.

Huge topic. Here's a couple more links....

I have Pike's C&O/CSX/NS/NORAC signal set and I have SMMDig's signal sets. I wonder if we're allowed to share these????

SMM's stuff was given to RECAP so they will be out as freeware shortly. Pike has left the building so I don't know about his stuff.

Last time I checked Pike was very active on Trainsim.com. But I was the first to discover his site being gone. I was so mad. I had just gotten the Dash 9 for THAT specific reason. His repaints. **!!bang!!**

1. SafeTran Signals on Lincoln Industries masts and control box. CSX uses quite a bit of these in my area.
2. By the control box in the back, that signal looks almost like it could be an older US&S signal, akin to the old searchlights. But then again, it could also be a Griswold single light like NS uses on their older types.
3. SafeTran V20. FYI, SafeTran is now part of Invensys Systems, and the V20 has been produced for RCAP.

SMMDigital signals can be redistributed at will. However, those signals have been given to RCAP for release with Pike's 3rd version of his signal scripts.

#2 = General Railway SA-1 Searchlight
#3 = US&S TP-5 Tri-Light
Cheers!
