Overall Route Performance

Unread postby gtw5812 » Sun Dec 09, 2012 10:34 am

Something that interests me..... I do not understand how I can run a highly detailed, German electric route, with no stutter in FPS, but if I go onto NEC, or another American route, everything drops drasticly. Why can't we get the performance of the foreign lines into more of the US lines? I am not a developer, just an end user, but I sure would like the performance I see on the DB German routes, pushed into operation on the NEC and a few other routes that RSC has seem to have forgotten along the way.

Just my thoughts...

I know exactly what you mean. My route is ultra-detailed, yet it runs at minimum 25fps in the most detailed areas. I think there are two thing that make the US routes so choppy:

Open areas, like on SH a Cajon. My route has alot of deep valleys so the view distance is limited, therefore I can fit as much detail in one tile as SH or Cajon can into 5, and still have the same total object per tile. I'm no expert, but I think RW doesn't like drawing vast landscapes. The other aspect of open areas I noticed is that when I imported my terrain, even without any scener, or track laid at all, FPS dropped when I was viewing long distances from height.

The other thing is train length. I don't know why NEC is so bad, but Cajon and SH definately respond massively in the FPS department to train length.

So why does NEC perform so badly against it's European counterparts? !*don-know!*

Good question!... I'm keen to see if anyone comes up with anything.
