I'd like to buy this during the current sale but before I do, I'd like to know if it comes with any cars?

Thanks

I snapped it up. Played around with it for a minute. The loco sounds join the SD40-2 in the sound suckage club. !*not-ok*! One of these days, somebody there is gonna figure out what an EMD 2-stroke really sounds like. Gonna have to go to a user made sound pack I suppose. Don't even get me started on the SD75 DLC I just purchased as well with it's own hot mess for sound. Otherwise it seems to be a good pack.

If you look past the sound, the PH40 pack rocks!! The cars are nice looking with that shinny bling chrome color. Has a decent amount of included scenarios. I noticed the cab sway seemed more pronounced on these units then most. Gives it character.

Glad I NOW have a somewhat modern passenger train in my collection after settling for the default F7 led old school passenger trains up to now. I want to pick up the Genesis locos at some point when it comes back on steam. I wish they would make an EMD F59PHI and a GE P32-8WH (Dash 8), as well as the SDP40F to complete the Amtrak roster I would prefer.

In the end I give the pack an overall... !!*ok*!!

OFF TOPIC... Anybody know the name and model of the horn used on the SD70 series and SD75 DLC packs?

I made the sounds, but I got rushed. !*not-ok*! I never got to implement my HEP-on sounds. I have them done on here, pretty much. I probably will have to release it on here.

Couldn't agree more about the sound. It is NOT the sound of a F40PH. !*not-ok*! Curious as to your comment about finding a user made sound pack. Anything you can reference because I too would like to find an authentic sound for this loco.
Other than that, I like it!

I also don't have Donner Pass but seeing that an update is coming, for $19.95 I will buy it and then will be able to use the F40PH scenarios as listed in the RW2013 menu.

To BNSFdude ....

If it was a matter of simply the missing HEP-on sounds, it would be a much easier fix. The problem is.... your sound for the engine itself is wrong. It sounds like a bad karaoke version of the thing when running. Your EMD startup sounds (at least on the SD40-2 for sure) are pretty spot on. But once the engine is running, it just sounds weird and out of character.

I'm not saying these things to dump on you cuz I have no personal beefs with you. You were very nice to me in our PM exchanges. It brings me no pleasure to rip apart a man's hard work. But I will always tell the truth as I see it and hopefully make you a better sound designer. The SD40 sound pack that Simmer4 uploaded is about as close to hitting it out of the park as you can get. It's one problem is the weird out of sync startup transition to running mode. There is this odd silence after startup and THEN the engine runs. He acknowledges this and said he plans to fix it. Otherwise that is a textbook example of how a 2-stroke EMD sounds at idle and through all the notches as can be expected.

As I said in my PM, if you did the ES44AC sounds, you did a pretty darn good job. It shows you can get something right and clearly have talent..... at least with 4-strokes.

And speaking of 4-strokes and I've said this in other threads...... we get to the SD70s and even worse... the SD75 I have discovered.

Of the SD70 sounds....

The EFI growl layer..... pretty darn good. CHECK!

The turbo sound layer..... pretty darn good......CHECK!

The low end rumble sound...... ALL WRONG! It clearly has the churning rhythm of a 4-stroke GEVO engine being used. No 2-stroke sounds anything like that. The only EMD that sounded like that was the SD90MAC which had a 4-stroke engine itself.

So I got the SD75 pack today and again...... it just sounded weird with the same 4-stoke rhythm in the low end. Here's what it's supposed to sound like.....

"Epic Q380 lead by ATSF SD75M"

http://www.vustv.com/xC6E79INdEQo4

I mean I'm sure if others listen closely, they can clearly hear what I'm saying when I talk about that 4-stroke churn in the low end. Doesn't belong there.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from. It IS constructive criticism. I'd rather people point things out to me wrong in my life instead of being a bunch of YES men trying to spare my feelings. It's how things usually get better. !!howdy!!

To miata54......

I don't know of a specific sound pack for this model, but using the SD40 sound pack should be a better sound then the current sounds. It used basically the same 3,000HP engine with HEP added. Now combine BNSFdude's HEP sound with the SD40 pack and you might be golden. *!greengrin!*

GSkid:

I don't find accessing specific files in the library here the most user friendly. I went to the Trainsim library and entered "SD40" and it came up with 5 files. The one that seems to fit the bill is by Jesse James. Is that what you had in mind or perhaps you can give me a link to the files you think would get me as close to the F40PH as is possible.

Thanks for your help.

Here's a link to the SD40 sound pack file.....

http://railworksamerica.com/cgi-bin/RW3 ... l?file=086

It comes with a readme file that explains where to put the sounds and files. Remember that it won't have the HEP sound, but neither does the current F40PH sound as it stands now. Maybe BNSFdude can somehow combine his HEP sound with the SD40 sounds and post it as a "SD40 w/HEP sound pack". Certainly IMHO the SD40 pack will sound better either way then the current sound. Just be sure to back up the old sounds to re-insert just in case you are unhappy with the result.

Or better yet.... try it out on the default SD40-2 first before deciding if that's how you want your F40PH to sound. Just remember that validating the game cache or an update will have it revert back to default.

No problem! I'd suggest making a copy of the folders that the new sounds are in. That way.... if it does revert back to default against your will, it's a matter of simply dragging and dropping a few folders instead of all individual files. It's just a time saver.

Notch it up step by step and give us your impressions. Once you use it, you will likely never use the default sound again.

On a side note..... does anybody like EAX turned on? I tried it and hate it. Sounds like you are inside a metallic sheet metal tunnel. The reverberation sounds awful and is very jarring when you go under a bridge overpass. I'm using my laptop's sound chip, but I can't imagine it sounds much better on a high-end sound card. !*not-ok*!

The sounds were recorded by myself from a GP40-2. Unfortunately when I sent them off to England, they goofed the looping, killed the bass. !*don-know!*

Kinda like dropping off your cat at the vet for it's vaccinations, only to return later to pick it up and notice one of it's lungs is missing. !!bang!!

Killed the bass? You know.....Kill is such a strong word to be using don't you think? (nudges buzz's attention towards BNSFdude) !*roll-laugh*!

I know... the sound pack was lost in translation. It was the language barrier. *!!thnx!!* I'm here all week. Try the steak!

In all seriousness though... I'll say this then. Everything I said in my past posts......consider them to whom it may concern. Easier that way.

You know.... you could tell them about this and resubmit your work w/HEP sounds included and have it download in the next update. If the original was a good as you said, never hurts to try and right a wrong by bringing it to their attention.
