Trains vs Zombies II

Unread postby Toonces » Tue Oct 23, 2012 10:25 am

I just saw a picture on faceboook. A new "Trains vs Zombies". The picture has an AEM-7, so this is going to be on the NEC.

can't wait *!rolleyes!*

The Railfan in me says:
I don't get why we don't get other holiday specials, like a monster blizzard with accumulating snow, or a spring flood where the water has effects on the locomotive. (Real visible effects, not just a message that pops up telling you there's a problem. An F40PH Zephyr and Christmas special over the new Donner Pass would get my interest, not just a bunch of green passengers in an apocalyptic setting)

The teenager in me says:
It does look interesting though, and may add some interesting (hopefully improved) assets (new fire, maybe splattering body fluids? *!twisted!*)
It's nice to have something new and exciting to mix in with this sim sometimes.

I never thought of that. Normally the only "special" effects we ever see are the train tornado that happens on some routes. But that's a bug in the game, and not by design.

I got the e mail from RSC promoting it. Looking at the ad,all I could think of is that the zombies should have X Box controllers in their hands!

I guess the thing that came to my mind was that they were all in line for the new iPhone. *!greengrin!*

Did any of you actually play the one from last year? I actually thought it was rather good.

This year though, it's fantastic and makes really good use of some of the new technology, particularly weather wise. Driving along the NEC using a set of headphones, the way the sky changed it's hue and dumped an immediate torrential downpour along with crackles of thunder made it genuinely chilling, and that was only part 1. And then there was the bridge jump........ *!lol!*

After watching video walkthroughs of the first one, I never understood the appeal of it. Reminds me of when a good movie tries to cash in with kids toys and other cheesy merchandising that kinda cheapens the brand. Just change some colors of the humans to zombie colors, different environment lighting with a tacked on story and you get this. At least it's as cheap in cost as it is in quality.... so you get what you pay for. *!twisted!*

It is being delivered as a stand-alone version, i.e. you do not need to have TS2013 to be able to run it, as you geta copy of it with your purchase. However there are no other routes than the (adapted) NEC route used in the T&Z2 DLC and no other rolling stock other than the stuff used in the T&Z2 DLC. But you can buy all existing DLC's and use them. If you already have TS2013 it will just add the T&Z2 DLC to your files.

So in a sense you can buy a completely empty TS2013 (if you don't count the T&Z2 DLC) for $9.

Given that the thing is delivered as a "route", can you create your own scenarios if you wanted to?

I suppose the thing would still be kind of wacky - broken track and invisible flyovers and all that.

Yes, you can create your own scenarios, but, as you stated, it is kind of a tricky route !*cheers*!

Empty route for $9? Well considering I got 2012 with all it's default routes for $7 during a Steam sale on March 17th of this year + the free 2013 core upgrade = CHECK......and MATE!!! !*cheers*!
