Given that the Donner Pass route will be updated (hopefully in the near
future).
I am in the process of modifying the Pacific Fruit Express Scenario that
came in the SP Cab Forward Addon Pak from RSC/Steam.
I have replaced the Player Train with a 100 PFE Refrigerator Cars/wagons
with Three AC Cab Forwards. This was known as a Roseville Fruit Block.
The Train weight (for 100 reefers) was about 5000 tons or in SP jargon
10000Ms where 1M is a unit of 1000lbs. Real life trains of this weight
on Donner as above had in addition a point helper usually a MT Class 4-8-2 Mountain
or C Class 2-8-0 Consolidation. The absence of this point helper will
make this scenario all the more challenging.
I have also extended the destination (from Colfax) to Norden which makes the scenario
length almost 49 miles. Things become interesting since there no water
facilities on the route. I made the run and finished with less then 1500
gallons in the Tank. The run takes a little less than 3 hours.
Extended stretches of 2.5% grade make for speeds of 12-16MPH. You will
also have deal with occasional and inevitable wheel slip.
I am now in the process of fine tuning things and modifying/adding some
AI Traffic including some helpers returning from Norden to Colfax and
Roseville.
At this point the scenario requires only The Donner Pass and SP CabForward
Paks. I am contemplating adding some third party payware/freeware
rolling stock appropriate for the period 1946-1952.
I have not added any markers or objects, so hopefully this scenario will
function after the update.
If anyone is interested I will document and package this scenario making
it available in the File Library and/or Steam Workshop.
Future companion scenarios being considered are Roseville to Colfax and
Norden to Sparks (sans helpers) using of course the Roseville Fruit
Block.
