Hello everyone!

Unread postby JonathanH » Sun Oct 14, 2012 1:52 am

Hi there. My name is Jon.

I'm new to the Train Sim scene. I purchased TS2013 and am finding it quite fun and challenging. I don't know much about trains (yet), but I've always liked them ( I mean come on! What kid doesn't like trains?).

I am interested in getting more North American content for TS2013, and in particular, Canadian content (if any exists). I am also very interested in learning more about steam engines and maybe getting some good steam era content as well. Is there any steam era scenarios that take place in the late 19th/early 20th century? For me, it kind of kills the illusion when I'm chugging along in a steam train and I see modern buildings and such.

Also, I have 3D modelling experience so I could probably create some buildings and other static objects to add to the sim, if that is possible.

Anyways, glad to be here and looking forward to learning more about railway history and this great Sim!

Take a look at the Cimarron & Pacific. It's that age. There are some pictures in the screen shots section. Steam from that era is available from Brit Kits, Dick Cowen's web site. If you have trouble finding anything just come back here and ask. We are generally a friendly bunch. *!greengrin!*

And welcome to the addiction,
Buzz

Welcome aboard to the wonderful world of Train-Simulator.
I didn't really know much about trains much either until I got into playing with RailWorks (I guess a little over 3 years ago now). Now I'm into making my own routes & scenarios for it these last couple of years (My site here if interested to take a look; http://www.rryard.com/ ).

There are some Canadian locos out there (such as Two Canadian National Locomotives that come with the Fort Kent route:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/24055/ ), and look around you may find other 3rd Party-made Canadian related content.

Rich, of AllAboardRails: http://www.allaboardrails.com/ , has a few good North-American based routes.

Then there's other North American based routes such as:

Cajon Pass: http://store.steampowered.com/app/208307/
Portland Terminal: http://store.steampowered.com/app/65215/
Donner Pass: http://store.steampowered.com/app/65239/
Northeast Corridor: http://store.steampowered.com/app/65232/

To mention a few. Plus look through the RailWorks America Library here for some goodies too.

The Port Road route, http://store.steampowered.com/app/24079/ , is a nice Free route addon (UK based though), but is perhaps a good looking route/era for some of the available Steam-locos.

I'm sure other people can give more recommendations.
Cheers! *&!welcome!&*

EDIT: Port Road works now. Weird... *!embar*!

I was also thinking of getting the Fort Kent addon as well, but it says its for TS2012. Will it work in 2013? Will there be a difference in the physics model/graphics/lighting?

Thanks!

There are some repaints of the ES44 and SD40-2 for CP as well as the GP38, plus SOO, DM&E, and IC&E as those are CP too technically.

Looks like I have a lot of reading to do haha. Thanks for all the great information!

So there seems to be quite a few CN locomotives available which is really cool. Are there any Canadian routes available to go with them?

Sorry for all the questions haha..

Hi, Jon. *&!welcome!&*

Bay of Quinte is a free Canadian route available here in the RWA file library. There are a couple of very fun scenarios available for it as well, also here.

Most TS2012 routes and most TS2012 assets will work in TS2013, FYI.

Have fun and ask all the questions you need to. This is a good place to get friendly help. !!*ok*!!
