ES44 Horn Replacement issues

Hi all! I have been attempting to replace the horn sound on the ES44 in the Sherman Pass route and have come up empty on all attempts. I downloaded the files from RWA but for some reason cannot get them to work. When I replace all of the existing .dav files with .wav files and fire up the game, I get no horn sounds at all. Any thoughts? I would like to replace the very muffled sounding horn with the downloaded ones.

And how does one go about changing this?

What software makes a .dav file? Is it propriety to RSC or is it some type of audio editing program that produces it?

Apparently, .dav is just a wave with every bit XORed. Disclaimer, I've never tried the above linked program...
