Will multi core make TS2013 faster?

Discuss almost anything about RailWorks.

I have an i5 and a GTX 560 since 2013 update I can run everything smooth with max settings. You should be getting good preformance with i5 or i7.

I posted a link to a podcast on the forums here, and in that podcast RSC state that they have not developed TS2013 as a multicore app. They also seem to indicate that they were unkliklely to develop TS2013 as a "true" muticore app in the near future - I would guess because of time and effort and possibly few significant performance gains. However, that does not stop TS2013 utilising some multicore functionality and Windows 7 is very good at allocating cores as it sees fit. There is no longer an option in TS2013 to "use" multicore so I guess RSC felt it was no longer pertinent to include that option.

In Windows task manager (see this: http://www.ehow.com/how_5860012_allocat ... essor.html) you can allocate individual or multiple cores to partcular exe file such as railworks.exe but I have not seen any performance gains by allocating the cores this way - IMHO Windows does it better! You can also achieve the same with command line options via a .bat file. There are software options such as process lasso (payware) which allocate the core usage apparently more efficiently than Windows does. I use process lasso (http://bitsum.com/docs/pl/faq.htm) but I can't say that I have seen significant performance gains.

In the end very few tweaks actually give you the performance boost you are looking for and Windows is pretty good at what it does with my "help"!

Its really about balance (and maintenance) - you have to balance the OS, mobo, the cpu, the RAM, the video card and the HDD, and once the system performs to your satisfaction then you need to keep it that way..
If you have fast cpu and fast RAM but a slow video card then you may throttle the performance because the card may not be able to respond quickly enough to the cpu etc.
Like wise a slow cpu, fast RAM and fast video card the same could happen, and so on.
In computing you generally get what you pay for, but to be clear there are some good reasonable cost machines that can run TS2013 quite nicely, so you don't have to have the latest and greatest but just a balanced well maintained system. My best results are using a computer with minimal software installed except for TS2013, MS Flight and FSX.
There are so many things that can cause performance issues in a computer so even with a balanced rig if it is not maintained then it could still perform worse than you expected.
If you post your specs here we may be able to see if anything could be improved.

I understand - and with a laptop because of space/heat/power restrictions you are more constrained in what you can improve.
If its working OK - I'd leave well alone.
