NEC missing objects

Unread postby alby54 » Fri Sep 28, 2012 9:12 am

Hi, I just bought MTS 2013 (Steam online basic version) couple of days ago. All the sceneries inside the NortEast Corridor are missing objects and do not load. Shouldn't they be default sceneries in this package or am I missing something...
The error message shows a list of missing files as I report here (didn't find any file attachment feature)

Consist builder - Can't load rail vehicle - Tank Car v4
Consist builder - Can't load rail vehicle - Tank Car Def2
Consist builder - Can't load rail vehicle - Tank Car v3

and so on......

I wrote to Steam to find out if there could have been some problem with my MTS installation and asked them how to perform a clean install from scratch but I got no answer.

Any help will be appreciated.

If you verify the cache it should replace the missing assets.

I think the problem is not cache related. It is more alike that I'm missing some default files from the main download of MTS 2013 but I don't know how to repair the package or re-download the product. Today I bought 4 new addons from Steam and none of them is working and the usual missing files warning pops out. Problem is that Steam assistance is = 0

Alby did you own TS2012? If not then you are missing some assets, the TS2012 default assets. The tankers you mentioned are part of the old stuff from 2012 and earlier. If you did not own TS2012 or earlier then you have to purchase these assets either in seperate asset packages or by purchasing an older route that requires them. If you purchase an older route that requires them you get them for free and just pay for the route.

Just a fine examle of the mess RSC has got a new customer trapped in.
According to this product page of June 2012, for the € 29.99 NEC http://store.steampowered.com/app/65232/ there is no mention of the requirement of the old Kuju assets.
Then right below this is the complete TS2013 at € 24.99 which includes the NEC amongst its routes and doesn't mention the required old Kuju assets either.
Clicking on its Package Info button leads to this page: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/16554/ which again doesn't mention any required purchase in order to get the old assets.
I assume therefore that both the separate NEC http://store.steampowered.com/app/65232/ and the complete TS2013 http://store.steampowered.com/app/24010/ package are ready to run, and have no missing assets.

Apparently not, but read on. It might also be the buyer has to wait for Steam to supply him with the depencies after buying his new route. A complete shutdown and restart of Steam should sort this out. Otherwise a Verify Integrity, but this is something new users probably don't know about and might fear doing, if they have found the menu in the first place.

In order to avoid more mistakes like this, RSC should update its DLC product pages or have the dependencies downloaded and installed immediately along with the purchase.
I find it very confusing and would not recommend new players to buy TS2013 at the moment.

You say you don't think it is cache related. Did you verify the cache as suggested in this thread? That is the way to repair the package. Try it if you have not done so.

Edit:
Just to clarify, by verifying the cache we are referring to going into the Steam app, right clicking your TS2013 game, select properties, and select verify game cache.
You should also clear the blueprint cache in the game itself. This is done in the main game menu. Let us know how it's going.

If we're not missing something and this is truly the case, they really are in a real pickle. How could they have not:

1. Realized/considered the potential problems? Makes no sense.
2. Tested combinations of upgrades vs. new copies of TS2013 with DLC. Yeah, they're a small company, but this is fundamental.

*!rolleyes!*

I cant comprehend it.

BTW, for what its worth, I do not have copies of any freight cars in the NEC RailVehicles folder structure. I'm guessing they're linking to the cars from the Barstow to San Bernardino...I mean "Cajon Pass" route.

In the meantime, we forget about Alby.

Bob Artim gave Alby the hint, but are the freightcars showing up now?

Please Alby, tell us do your NEC scenarios load OK now?

Unfortunately, RW_Tools refuses to list all rolling stock in use by all the NEC scenarios on my clean copy of TS2013.
So after checking a few individual scenarios that come with the NEC I can conform the tank cars are referenced to the Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\railvehicles\freight\tankcar folder.

So my question to Alby is to open these folders and check the contents of the subfolders inside that tankcar folder.

You can open the Steam application folder in Windows Explorer, navigate to steamapps/common/railworks and open the Assets folder contained therein. Thenopen the tankcar folder and each of its named subfolders. Inside each subfolder there should be a wagon folder which should contain files by the type of .bin and .geopxdx amongst others.

If not, please report back and we'll try to help you out.

OK, I've verified the cache and the result was 132 missing objects. Now, how do I proceed? Is there a way to rebuilt the default files (I think that part of the missing files is related to the newly donwloaded add-ons)? I tried to re-open the simulator after that but I got exactly the same errors which means that nothing gets reloaded automatically after the verification.

Alby

P.S. I didn't check all the rest of sceneries but I guess it is going to be the same

132 assets missing? That is rather a lot at first sight. You did apply the Remove duplicates, right?

Can you post the screenshot of the missing assets window? Press ALT+PRINT SCREEN, open Paint and click/select Paste.
The screenshot of only the missing assets window should be pasted into the Paint window.
Save as .jpg and try to upload it to the forum using the Upload attachment button that is visible below your posting.

Otherwise, save the missing assets as a text or csv file, zip it using the Windows Explorer "Send to => Compressed (zipped) folder" and try to upload that with your reply posting.
That way we can look over the list and sort things out.

What was the newly added adon that you think is causing the problem because it probably is.

You never said it you owned previous version of Train Simulator.

Verifying the game cache will rebuild the default files. Repeat doing that until it comes up clean. Then clear the blueprint cache in the main menu after starting up TS2013.

Edit: You should also reboot your computer after a clean verification of the game. This has solved missing asset problems for me on one occasion. If you bought the add-ons from steam, they will be verified automatically with the rest of the standard package.

I re-run the verification and this time I got a 100% convalidated files (there's no such thing as eliminate duplicates). Needless to say that NEC and all the new add-ons still do not load because of missing files as you can see from the attachment. In the case of the 4VEP add-on, it seems like even scenery basic textures are missing. In my humble opinion, after years of experience with fly simulator compared to the actual Flight by Steam........ I suspect that this group is lacking a bit of professionality. Can't help missing the good old days ^___^

Alby

P.S. I guess next step will be clear all files and redownload them from scratch.....
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Good! Now reboot your system, start the game, clear the blueprint cache and see how it goes.
