Railworks America

Well Jerry just posted that he has had it with RSC on his site. He has pulled all Railworks related content. I had not downloaded the loco building tutorial,as I was waiting till I had time to "get serious" about it. In my opinion Jerry has been absolutely inspirational to this whole community,and now I feel like I lost a friend. When I read the new licensing agreement,my thought was "this is not going over well with SMM". It turns out I was right. He states the reason on his site,so I think all should read it. I like the improvements to 2013,but needing to reconfigure all content once each year should NOT be necessary,I agree. I was really looking forward to his upcoming GP 40-2,that would have a major boost to this sim. And I was amazed with the work that went into the AND route,from the get-go. I made a donation soon as I d/l it.

It is definitly a shame that he has decided to leave, but it is understandable. His NS route was impressive, but I never tried out his locomotive. I have had personal correspondence with him interms of some repaints of the SD70ACE, it was a good experience and I am sad to see him go.

It was a pleasure to meet him! I do hope to see him on the board though from time to time to visit

I can understand his pain as I need to go thru every scenario on every 3rd party route to make sure they still work. However, I was looking foward to a finished NSAND. It also seems that the C&O is dead as I have not seen anything from Tori in a long time in the forms. Thomas is also near giving up. If the community has to depend on RSC (payware) then it may also go away.

A very big loss for us. Very big.

I'm not a developer and I get frustrated trying to keep up with changes, updates and addons.

I can't even begin to imagine the frustration and heartbreak the 3rd party developers have to go through.

This is a loss for the Railworks community.

I've been quiet for awhile on this. His news hit me hard too.

SMM and I have been emailing back and forth throughout the day. He asked if I would like to have the tutorials, of course I accepted so you will see them online soon again. I also received from him the latest C39-8, and the source for the GP40-2. There is still some work to be done with the 40 and it will take me some time to work through it, but it will get done (this will make three engines on my workbench...). Between SMM and mrennie I feel like I am back in school or something, but the experiance is worth it.

RSC.. is only hurting there future with all US train fans.. More and more people leave becuse of what they do.

What about his NS route, could he not give you that as well as a "as is" route with no support?

I am still talking to him about that. He has some good reasons not to release it, but I won't get into it rigth now.

Hate to see him go, he built some of the best scenery and locomotives in the game.

If we keep loosing freeware developers I won't have a reason to stay in the game any longer.

A most unfortunate situation with many of the US freeware creators has arisen because they want/must/need to make their stuff compliant with the new folder structure and RSC policy.

Is the US community alone in this or are creators over at UKTS and the continental European communities also suffering?
Most of the routes can be made compliant, at a cost to the author as it could take a lot of time to get their assets out of the Kuju folders.

SMM's signals and crossings are core assets to most freeware US routes, and their continued improvement and support will be missed very much by the community.
I adminire andgreatly respect the response of our community leaders to try and take over the most important assets and salvage as much as possible from the ongoing projects in Jerry's portfolio.

The main concern is, how can me make RSC aware of the losses our community suffers in a non-confronting and constructive way? Do they really care?

RSC want to get into the biggest train sim market the US and then they go out of their way to upset content creators. This is not going to get US railfans to give up MSTS if the rate of new US content for railworks remains at such a slow pace. But it is getting annoying now having to spend hours each year fixing what RSC break. But back on topic this is another great loss to the US side of railworks as his route and locos are awsome.

RSC doesn't care at all. All they care about is making money. They will just keep losing potential customers at this rate.
