Newbie question concerning real life throttle

Unread postby AaronB » Mon Sep 24, 2012 8:45 am

I don't know much about real life locomotives, but do the throttles in them actually have the detents? This is one area of Trainsimulator that has created some difficulty for me. Sometimes a certain percentage (detent) is too much, and the next lower is too little. Having to throttle up and down constantly keeps me pretty busy. Just wondering if real world engineers do this also.

Thanks.

Most are 8 notch throttles, yes. But the percentages are a bit off. They should have an exponential curve, (6, 12, etc to 100%) versus 13 25 etc.
