SD40-2 Sounds

Unread postby MontanaRails » Sun Sep 23, 2012 8:22 pm

So...I am having the hardest time getting simer4's awesome SD40-2 sound pack to work with the new Sherman Hill SD40-2...

I tried aliasing it to the Kuju default one, as I was able to do with the Donner Pass units, and they work, except on the Sherman Hill Route. I cant seem to get past this.

I tried installing the sound pack to the respective sounds folder in the Sherman Hill route - and then the sim just freezes.

What's the best way to do this? I'm out of ideas. I'd like to just alias them so I dont have duplicate sounds taking up space on my HDD.

I don't have Sherman Hill yet but thanks for the heads up for when I do!

That sound pack is awesome!!! The turbo whistling, the "drum roll", etc etc is darn near perfect. It has very nice notch up sound transitions. Railwaorks should have made a deal with the author and put it as it's SD40-2 sound. The only good thing about the default SD40-2 sound is it's start up sounds... otherwise they suck pretty bad.

My guess is that because Sherman Hill is a 2013 route that takes advantage of 2013's tech and assets, maybe the way it structures and executes sounds is different. Maybe it runs legacy sounds and routes in a legacy sound mode that can't be used in new routes. Just taking a guess on it. Do your 3rd party wagon sounds work? My wagon and SD40-2 sounds work fine in all my 2012 routes I use them in.

Don't know what to really say other than maybe email Railworks and ask if they changed things for 2013's sounds. *!question!*

Adam R and I ran out of time to do the SD40-2 sounds. I had the audio made up, but we hit the deadline. Same with the SD70Ms. :(

Can you make them available to the RWA file store? Or has the deal been closed and are the sounds now property of RSC who probably won't use them (for a while?)?

Everything is still mine for whatever I want. I'll continue to work on them, but it'll take a while.
