Suggestion for the upcoming upgrade to TS2013

Unread postby robbit » Tue Sep 18, 2012 9:46 am

If I may make a suggestion for 2 new forum topics:
1: Positive feedback about TS2013
and:
2: Negative feedback about TS2013

That way if people want to read the good they can without the bad and vice-verse

I am not in favor of this. RWA does not condone bashing others or their work. To open a topic to talk about just the negative will not only stir the pot but will assuredly spill over to the rest of the community (Please show me when it hasn't). I am not against stating the positives and negatives about someone's work, it just has to be constructive in the end. That's why we have a section here where you can show how much you like a route. You can even recast your vote if it was upgraded or you changed your mind.

If you want to try something new, then how about a "silent" thread about TS2012 where you only show unaltered screen shots and no comments? That way the rivet counters can show the world what is missing, and the engineers can show the still life that is the heartbeat of railroading.

I guess then name is not the best as I can see your point about the bashing but that was not what I was thinking. I just thought about things people did not like about it and could make suggestions on what could make it better.

So Maybe a tile change of
1: What I like about Train Simulator 2013
and:
2: What I do not like about Train Simulator 2013
or:
3: Just the what I like topic would work

But that is just my thought about keeping things positive and still have a place for the bashers (which there will be bashers)

Changing the title doesn't lessen the blow. I understand what it is your are trying to achieve, but putting a honey pot out there to catch people's negativity will not work.

What did you think of my other suggestion where we only "speak" in screenshots? No one can fault that form of expression when someone puts up a picture where the the tracks are floating. Its clear. Its proof. Then on the other hand you get those sky domes and distant mountains while you ride the thunder, and you know you want to be there sitting in the cab.

OK! I Agree maybe it was not such a good idea. I was just trying to find a way that people can avoid all negativity about it while still honoring the opinions of those that want to vent.

Speaking with screenshots only and no text works just fine. And is probably the better way

I started a thread here.

I think I made the conditions simple and fun.

Actually he did ask first before doing anything. and asked me for my opinion and if I agreed with him. He does have to make as many people happy as he can at the same time (which is no easy feat sometimes :D )

Not sure what the problem is. I know that there will be a dozen or more posts started on TS2013, and I don't intend to stop that. What I am trying to do is address a common concern around here, which is to curb the negativity. Yea, some people will be ticked about the updates and some will love the updates. I just don't want a squabble happening and tie my insides into a knot.

As far as I am concerned there is no problem. I think we are on the same page and you did what should have been done.

Splitting topics into gripes vs kudos only serves to drive Bob and Dan bonkers. I see no problem being critical of TS2013 shortcomings, but these threads have a knack for getting out of control fast. So long as no one gets personal, and that includes bashing folks over at RSC, then I believe a healthy discussion of the merits and foibles of TS is possible without the admins resorting to locking posts and banishing offenders.
Cheers!

I don't have a problem with people being critical either, I do have a problem when they have to mention it in every post they make even when it is not a railworks forum. I see RW getting trashed in MSTS forums and Run8 forums and Trainz forums by the same people. Like a vendetta. If you have owned RW for more than 6 months you already know there are some things that could be better. Telling us about it in every post, every day for 3 years is not necessary. A lot of us are enjoying RW just fine.
