From time to time, I used to have business with the Port Authority and other agencies in the WTC, and I remember vividly the view of Manhattan from the 83rd floor. I also remember the way the tower swayed at that altitude: it was more of a circular motion than a sway, actually. A colleague of mine who had left the agency in the early-'80s was working with the Port Authority a few years later, and was in a meeting on the fifth floor when the bomb went off in '93. The day the planes hit the towers, he happened to be running late, and his train never got past Newark. He and I had frequently discussed the poor state of dispatching on the NEC back in the '80s, and no doubt he recalled a few of those conversations until he and his fellow passengers got the word about what was going on. He stopped by my house one cold October evening, a couple of years back, to tell me that he was taking his retirement from the Port Authority, and that he an his wife were moving far away from greater New York. He hasn't forgotten, nor have I, because we both remember friends and colleagues who didn't have the chance to retire.

As someone who spent a considerable amount of time in Southwest Asia, I will never forget.

I was in elementary school when this happened. I still remembered seeing the new coverage that night and my parents sitting me down and trying to explain to me what happened. To this day anytime I see news footage from that day it sends shevers up my sprine, tears come to my eyes, then a strong rage comes to me saying, why did all those people have to die that day. Someone on my facebook did not understand the gravity of this event and tried to say we need to move on, forget about it. I countered and said that to me 9/11 is more than about remembering the people that died that day, but rather how that event brought the whole country together as one. People donated their time to help, companies sent money, employees, and heavy equitment to help. Our country is strong when united as one.

I will never forget that morning. LAX shut down, and there was this eerie silence. Watching on tv, it was horrific. All those brave NYPD and FDNY people that gave their lives. Plus all the people on the street that rushed in to help.

I was at work (Working for the US ARMY) when this occured. A erie silence fell on us because the unknown is now upon us. After a few moments the phone rang out telling us to kick it into high gear we are going to war. I am a proud american and these moments will never leave my mind. Determined country going against a unknow enemy to preserve freedom. 99 precent of us at work is ex ARMY and would have proudly step back in to help accomplish the task.

i was in primary school on the day and i just remember being violently sick when i saw the news footage then i felt a burning anger that's never left me and i was 10 at the time words cannot describe how i feel to this day i may not be an American citizen but as an Aussie even i felt the impact of that day. may the world never forget the heroes of that day

I was in the work that day, on the other side of the world. It was about 10am in argentina when we ear the news. No one works at the office that day, we just watch the tv and couldn´t believe what we see.

Being a New Yorker it's good to finely see the hole in the skyline fill up. Check out this time lapse of the Freedom Tower.

I was in 3rd grade in class, I remember they turned the news on and watch for the rest of the day... So sad
