ES44AC in black

Unread postby ChrisNH » Sat Aug 11, 2012 10:32 pm

Hi,

I have not been able to find any reference to an ES44AC in black. I have found pictures of 5403 (the one in the Barstow Backlog scenario) in UP colors. Is this prototypical? I admit I am not much of a UP guy so wouldn't know one way or another, but this really struck me as odd and its bugging me.

Thanks,

Chris

The black ES44AC and SD40-2 were (and I'm probably wrong) supposed to represent NS locomotives before they got the required license (in which case the number is still wrong, heh). Don't look at anything in a 'prototypical eye' in this game because it'll make you pull your hair out.. I've tried. !*hp*!

License place holders makes sense and is consistent with the one cheek approach I am coming to expect from this software although I would expect they want you to buy their BNSF pack to complete their original product since NS would not be around there.

Thanks,

Actually, Norfolk Southern locomotives are very common on BNSF unit trains running into Los Angeles, just as it is common to see CSX mixed in with Uncle Pete.

any idea how they get out that far? NS only runs as far west as Dallas.

Its common here too in Ohio, Q171/172 always have BNSF and Q090/091 always have UP.

Due to run-through agreements and horsepower hour trade-offs, we see every major road on the NS Atlanta North District. UP has a stack train through a couple of times a week, and it's not uncommon to see 7 - SD70's (M - Ace) on the lead. The power plants in south Georgia like the Powder River coal, so you will see a 110-130 car BNSF powered (with DPU) unit coal train four-to-six times a day. BNSF also occasionally runs a Road-Railer train through at odd hours of the day. A CSX unit or two is mixed in on an NS train occasionally. Less frequently but something to look out for are the oddballs - a former SOO SD60 (last week), a CN SD60F, Conrail, DME, and so on. I think about the only road I haven't seen down here is Candian Pacific.

- Power Hours: An outdated unit of measurement. But railroads still use it.

Simple terms: Railroad A borrows a 4,400 horsepower locomotive from Railroad B and operates it for twelve hours, Railroad A owes a debt of (4,400 * 12) 52,800 horsepower-hours. Railroad A may repay the debt by loaning Railroad B a 4,400 horsepower locomotive(s) for ten hours.

Plus it just makes things easier to leave locomotives on a train instead of removing them, and replacing them with the same thing.

I see some odd hookups out here in the bay area sometimes. Usually NS with a BNSF lead.

Well, in my neck of the woods, I have never seen an NS unit. It's all BNSF (including old Chief colors) and UP. I have never seen an NS unit.

I've seen one or two on the transcon. Also seen more than a few Ferromex and CSX motors in UP trains.

Does anyone know of a reskin that adds the NS logos to the black ES44AC? I've searched high and low in the file library without success.
